Toshiba SD-P2800 portable DVD player

While the portable DVD market has mostly been replaced with business users using their laptops, Toshiba still believes that people want to watch DVDs on the go with a dedicated player. As a DVD player the SD-P2800 is very good and second to none....

4-in-1 memory card reader, tad on the noisy side

As a DVD player the SD-P2800 is very good and second to none. Toshiba has included everything in the box that you would be expected to want. Battery, charger, cables to connect it to a television, headphone to listen to it, a remote to control it and...

Jobo Giga Vu Extreme

Memory cards, hard drives and laptops have all dropped massively in price over the last year (2007-08) as the technology becomes cheaper, but portable storage devices, such as this new Jobo Giga Vu Extreme, maintain a hefty price tag. We find out if...

ATTRACTIVE, CLEAR SOUND AND EASY TO USE

Overall, I'm really pleased. I've only been using it for a month or so now (and a newbie to the world of mp3 players), but it's perfect for my purposes. It looks good, it sounds good, it's nice and compact, easy to use (apart from the over-sensitivity)...

Nice clear sound, comfortable headphones, easy to navigate and attractive little package.

Touch pad is far too sensitive which can be extremely frustrating.

GOOD SOUND, EASY TO USE, SMALL AND AFFORDABLE

You can use the player to playback about 80 hours of music (MP3, 128kbit/sec) or reserve up to 2GB for data storage. It connects to the PC via USB 2.0 for a quick transfer of songs and files. The display is black and white only but backlit in blue. The...

touch-sensitive buttons ; Good sound quality ; Nice case ; Very small

Only 7 hours of battery life ; Doesn't show folders, organises songs by MP3 tags only

Jobo Giga Vu Extreme

Having already purchased the JOBO GigaVu Pro Evolution and being on the whole very happy with the unit, I purchased the JOBO Giga Vu Extreme(JGVEx) (160Gb HDD).

View actual raw files ; GREAT screen ; Fast transfers ; USBOTG ; Works as a multimedia player(Mpeg 1/2 and mp3 support) ; Very well made, the unit is surrounded by a thick rubber casing ; Linux ; OS NOT stored on the HDD

Definitely price, once again JOBO has the SRP for the 160Gb unit at a whopping $899 USD ; Not the most intuitive menu layout (I had no problems, but when I gave the unit to a friend, he didn't like the menu layout; thought it was a bit 'clunky') ; Slow...

Jobo Giga Vu Pro Evolution

Having looked at a number of portable back-up solutions for 'in the field' use, I eventually settled on the GVPE (80Gb capacity). Partly due to the price and partly due to Rob Galbraith's eclectic review of the product (which I recommend prospective...

Screen Resolution ; Decodes actual raw files (not just the embedded JPEG) ; File Transfer Speed ; Well Built ; Intuitive Controls ; 2 x USB (inc. USBOTG) ; Runs on LINUX ; Software Developers Kit Freely Available

CF Slot open to the elements (when the cover is removed, which it must be in order to use it) ; Battery Capacity ; In-Built Wi-Fi (should be there, not as an optional extra)

Good MP3 Player, But A Little Finnicky

I actually didn't buy this MP3 player, I inherited it from a friend who didn't want to have to repair it yet again. He had already replaced the hard drive and battery once. It originally came bundled with head-phones and a micro-USB cable, but as I got...

I like the user interface of the actual device, and it has some neat options

Batteries wear out fast, poor battery life, easily damaged, may be difficult to get it working
