Dell Pocket DJ reviewed, usability issues confirmed

Confirming Mossberg's overview of the iPod Mini's new competitors, CNet posted a review of Dell's new Pocket DJ that more or less echoes those same  usability issues. The hold button is, in fact, hard to use, the unit's a bit heavier than the...

Dell Pocket DJ

IPod Mini look-alike provides strong competition.

The Pocket DJ offers speedy navigation and 1GB more storage than the IPod Mini 4GB for the same price.

Dell Pocket DJ

Excellent audio quality, small size, and sophisticated looks help set the Dell Pocket DJ apart.

Small, light, and powerful. Fingerprint-resistant anodized aluminum case. Great audio quality.

Screen could have more contrast. Blue backlight detracts from readability.

Performance

Dell Pocket DJ (5GB)

Good value for a solid if unspectacular player; easy to operate; compatible with DRM-protected WMA files; decent sound quality.

No major extra features; mediocre battery life; scroll barrel is no match for iPod Click Wheel; Janus DRM support is coming, but when?

If you're looking for a simple high-capacity player and don't want to pay for extra features, the Dell Pocket DJ is a fine choice.

There's A Dell In My Pocket (And I'm Happy To See You)

While it may surprise many people, I am far from an audiophile. Yes, I love music, but I don’t find it necessary to have the top of the line equipment to listen to my cds. I have a solid Techniques sound system while slightly old; can still crank...

Good small size and excellent sound

No instructional manual included for installation or usage and existing computer knowledge is needed

Yes, the iPod Killer

My unit died within 3 months of owning it, but I haven't given up on it yet even though Dell refuses to replace or exchange it outside of 30 days. So why in the world would I give it a decent review when it's currently nothing more than a paperweight? ...

Great storage space, good battery life, vast amount of playback options, solid construction

30 day return policy, not much support for it anymore

A nice mp3 player but not on par with the iPod

I originally bought my Pocket DJ largely because of my dislike of Mac computers which are made by Apples. Also, with my desktop being a Dell, I thought that the Pocket DJ would be more compatible with it. Even though I did own a Dell desktop, loading ...

Gives Apple a little competition to their iPods, good sound, lightweight

scratches easily, sometimes locks up, software is hard to install
