Wireless options, TV recording, organiser functions

No FM tuning/recording

Although the Archos PMA430 lacks automatic photo slideshows, screen orientation switching and true widescreen support, it would still tempt audio-visual enthusiasts with deep pockets.

Performance

Archos Pocket Media Assistant PMA430

Unbelievable feature set; superb intuitive touch-screen interface; PDA features; built-in Wi-Fi; removable battery; genuinely helpful instruction manual.

Extremely expensive; no portrait orientation for PDA functions; no kickstand; no streaming media features; poor Wi-Fi performance; lacks slide-show mode for photos; mediocre battery life, especially for video.

Sticker shock and minor problems notwithstanding, Archos has crafted the most capable, enviable PVP we've seen yet with the PMA430.

Archos PMA400

The new Archos PMA400 does just about everything you'd want a multimedia computer to do, and you can slip it into a jacket pocket.

Audiophile-quality sound. Very good photo and video playback quality. Can be integrated into home AV setup, with TV cradle for easy hookup. More PDA functions than you'll ever use.

Expensive. The touch screen sometimes slows you down.

It tries to do too much

The PMA 430 is an ambitious undertaking by Archos, who hoped to fuse together the functionality of a PDA, MP3/video player, and DVR. In theory it was an awesome idea, in reality, it was greatly disappointing. FIRST IMPRESSIONS Out of the box, ...

Fantastic device, though a bit rough around the edges

Yes, I bought the first of the Archos PMA430’s the moment it rolled off the lot. Yes, $700 dollars probably is too much for this sort of item. No, I don’t need it. Yes, my company bought it for me. FIRST LOOK: GOOD That ...
