Archos 5 60GB

Archos takes on the iPod touch with a touchscreen media player of its own. Updated with Video Review

The same goes for the Internet services. The email client is simple but functional, and connected to my Gmail account with the bare minimum of fuss. I'd rather it hadn't tried to download all my several thousand messages by default, but really that's...

Archos 5 60GB review

We've just tested the first of Archos's new 'internet media tablets' in the shape of the 5 personal media player. Can it beat the mighty Apple?

Large screen, great for internet browsing ; good music and video playback ; 60GB HDD is good value

Fairly bulky ; pipped in performance by the iPod Touch

Sleek and slim but a bit big for the average pocket – get past that and video and internet functions are excellent

Archos 5 MP3 Player Review - Intro

The Archos 5 is the latest offering from Archos, and has quite an impressive list of capabilities. Out of the box it's a music / video / photo playback device with wifi. One of the Archos 5's best assets, however, is the huge array of upgrade options....

Seems sturdy, nice aesthetic with impressive-looking screen.; A great screen and capacity, touch screen offers some tactile feedback ; Great media player software ; Maintains your folder structure, good equalizer ; Great photo viewing software ; Great...

Picks up smudges and scratches easily, big ; The battery life could've been better, but overall there's no real complaints ; Looks a bit plain ; Playlist creation was a bit awkward ; No podcast support ; Weak output power, bad packaged-in headphones ;...

The Archos 5 is capable of doing a lot of stuff, but doesn't support much right out of the box. You can slap on a DVR station, GPS car holder, or helmet cam, but all of these things require an additional investment. This level of expansion gives the...

Archos 5 MP3 Player Review

The Archos 5 is the latest offering from Archos, and is currently available for $350. The Archos 5 is jam packed with capabilities, but realizing the device's true potential will require a slew of additional purchases. As it is out of the box, the...

The Archos 5 did had inconsistent audio test results. It had a very even frequency response, meaning it won't mess around with the way your music sounds. The Archos 5 did suffer from quite a bit of distortion, however, especially in the left channel....

Buyer Beware

Nifty while it works

It doesn't last and the company is horrible to deal with. The unit started making an audible buzz about a month and a half of use. It was sent back to Archos who took a few weeks to say they did not hear any problem. It was sent back and the buzz...

Never Again...

A = All R = "R" C = Customers H = Hate O = Our S = Service I wouldn't use another Archos unit if someone gave it to me. I am going to take this unit and put it on my concrete porch and video tape myself smashing it with a mallet. Then post on net in...

Worked ok until the month my warranty expired on month 13 ; Ask yourself, "Why is this recertified in the first place... Better yet. Ask yourself "Why are so many of these always popping up as recertified units? If you get this. Don't say I didn't warn...

Went bad for NO reason. Was used very lightly. Archos does not stand behind their product but instead tries to rook you for repair fee's. They wanted 161 dollars to repair. They lock the harddrive to the unit so you can not replace yourself, so you...

Not Android

Some of the reviews on the Android version aren't encouraging either.

Nice screen, better looking than an iPhone. Plays older Flash videos

Bought this last second on Shell Shocker. Thought it was an Android OS. Now that Archos has their new Android based tablets out they have virtually no support for this one. Interface isn't as good as iPhone, touchscreen doesn't work as well. Should...

bigger ipod update

don't bother calling the 800 number, never answer, and their voice mail box? always full!?!? so half an hour wasted

it broke... shipped it off to archos, and they gave me the NEW ARCHOS 5 INTERNET TABLET with android... not bad considering i paid $180 for it and ended up getting a $300+ device? The A5IT (achos 5 internet tablet) is so much better, but this one is...

it broke, the headphone jack got... shall i say "jacked?" it became loose... had to use old ipod for 10 days... but no biggie ; was heavy ; gps costs $100+ (can't remember exactly) but A5IT is $40
