REVIEW: Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch

We get hands on with the Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch entry-level graphics tablet (aka the Bamboo Capture) to see if it offers value for money for digital artists.

Supports multi-touch gestures ; Reversible design for left and right handers ; Budget price ; Ideal for beginners

No customisable gestures ; No customisable shortcuts ; Lacks features of advanced tablets

Although the Bamboo Pen and Touch may lack features when compared to more advanced tablets, those features come at a hefty price. At just £75 the Bamboo Pen and Touch is £125 less than an Intuos and £100 cheaper than the Medium Fun model. This means...

Read Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch

Wacom is the undisputed leader of pressure-sensitive tablet interfaces, and they are expanding their entry-level line with the latest Bamboo tablet, the first tablet to offer multi-touch input alongside the traditional stylus. As a Mac user, I consider...

Absolutely beautiful product

Spotty gesture support

As its first attempt at a multi-touch tablet, Wacom has some work to do but is on the right track. Because I have such high expectations from Wacom, I felt let down by the sometimes jittery performance of the touch component. As a traditional tablet,...

Pretty awesome.

Not sure how useful you'll find that Bamboo dock program that comes bundled. But some of the games were fun to play. More importantly, if you're on the fence about the added touch feature. I would think twice. Using the tablet as a touch pad is nice,...

It's a great product. It's very responsive and works well in OS X and Windows 7. The four buttons on the tablet and two on the pen are completely customizable, you can set them for just about any key or key combination ; There's also a nice little loop...

None I can think of

Works well but software is old

Wireless would be nice - and yes for the price it's not unreasonable. A good cordless mouse can be had for under $30, why isn't this wireless at $100?

The touch controls work well and the pen is smooth. The size is nice, not too big but not too small and it's good looking

Part of the reason I paid the extra $30 for this model was it comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements BUT it's version 7... come on Wacom, current that's 2 versions old! Don't play games with your customers, I would have applied that $30 toward the...

Quality and very affordable

Would really like to see the intous' context tool switching

Pen is great, 1024 lvls of sensitivity is great. Can't beat the price

Touch input is not so great, but fine for quickly navigating around. Pen nibs wear down a little quickly

Simply awesome

It's my first tablet, and I already love it. If I get the money I'm definitely going for an Intuos (or if I'm ever so blessed, a Cintiq). If you do digital art and need a portable tablet to stuff in your laptop bag, this is definitely it. Or even if...

Where do I begin? This thing is just awesome. After years of scanning pencil and paper drawings, being able to draw directly into my computer is second to none. Things look so much cleaner and the results are awesome. It was also much more intuitive...

Touch is a little shoddy compared to laptop trackpads, but I didn't buy this for this purpose (if you are I'd honestly pick something specifically designed for it). I'm guessing Wacom only really included this functionality to replace the old habit of...

Love it !

For a beginner to digital arts/comics/photography, the bamboo pen and touch is definitely a good start

Price! The bamboo pen and touch is definitely worth the price at which it is offered. I faced *some* problems getting used to it, but after a day, I find it pretty easy to use. I use MyPaint in Ubuntu 10.04 and I had no problem interfacing it

Nothing much to write here except that I would have preferred an even bigger active area. Who doesn't want more for the same price

WACOM Bamboo Pen & Touch Touch

Good value, small footprint.

Very nice. Another fine wacom product

Pen is slippery in my hand. Would be nice to have a friction band for gripping
