Kensington SlimBlade TrackBall

TrackBalls are almost a thing of the past, making very few appearances on a modern desktop PC and mainly seen in those poorly built internet kiosks at airports. Just like the IBM ThinkPad's nipple style controller, there are a few die hard fans out...

Excellent build quality, innovative scrolling technology, accurate for moving and scrolling

Expensive, not portable, needs drivers for extra buttons

The Kensington SlimBlade TrackBall is a really nicely made piece of kit but comes at a hefty price tag of nearly £100. If you've never tried a track ball and struggle with a normal mouse, they are worth a shot – but at £100, it's not something you are...

A Mouse Alternative : Kensington SlimBlade Trackball

Recently I heard from a reliable source that this type of product had been recommended by a doctor as a solution to overcome a medical problem. However, to the best of my knowledge, the product in question is not available on the National Health.

In order to gain access to these additional modes you need to carry out a process that the product’s limited documentation fails to explain. Admittedly there is a mention of going online to view a tutorial and download drivers but you can only download...

SlimBlade Trackball review

The SlimBlade Trackball from Kensington offers an innovative design, but is let down by software.

Innovative scrolling technology and design; precision movement and comfortable control; great potential but requires software rewrite or third-party software to really shine

Some modes are confusing; buttons and speed settings can’t be programmed; drivers need improving; no Bluetooth option; style will deter some; expensive

As with the Wacom Bamboo, a learning curve is required here, but for document and media browsing the SlimBlade Trackball offers clear benefits. User reviews suggest third-party software options improve performance, although this is an area Kensington...

Kensington Slimblade Trackball

An alluring, but awkward alternative to the mouse Most of us are used to using mice but there are alternative methods of moving the pointer on the screen. We have looked at graphics tablets ...

Kensington SlimBlade Trackball review

Kensington's new SlimBlade Trackball is a slick way to get your cursor precisely where you need it.

Silky smooth cursor-racing operation, coupled with some good integration with a number of common programs, make the Kensington SlimBlade Trackball a winner. We only wish its extra View mode functionality would work with all apps, but this doesn’t stop...

Kensington - SlimBlade Trackball

There have always been people who prefer trackballs to mice for controlling the screen pointer. Those with little room to swing a mouse, for example and, unaccountably, those controlling nuclear power stations, seem to have had ...

If you prefer a trackball to a mouse for day-to-day work under Windows or OS X, the SlimBlade Trackball is a fine example of the species and the new twist action, which acts much like a mouse clickwheel, is a useful bonus. Priced at a similar level to...

Kensington 72327 SlimBlade Trackball review: Kensington 72327 SlimBlade Trackball

Kensington 72327 SlimBlade Trackball

Comfortable for those physically unable to use a standard mouse; heads-up display conveniently shows the current mode.

Toggling between three modes complicates work flow; expensive; lacks Bluetooth; can't customize buttons or alter trackball sensitivity; large footprint.

Kensington resurrects a dying breed with the SlimBlade Trackball, but the potential of its unique shortcut buttons devolves into a mess of clumsy extra functions and awkward movements that restrict productivity.

Toggling between three modes complicates work flow ; Expensive ; Lacks Bluetooth ; Can't customise buttons or alter trackball sensitivity ; Large footprint

In addition to suffering from iPhone Syndrome, where fewer buttons are never more, the Kensington SlimBlade Trackball lacks any kind of customisable settings. In other words, it doesn't give the user control over the program routed to each button, nor...
