Hands on: HP Omen X Emperium review

Redefining the term ‘gaming monitor'

High resolution and refresh rate ; Built-in soundbar ; Quantum Dot, HDR panel ; Nvidia Shield built-in

Extremely pricey ; Somewhat slow response time

We’re wowed by the HP Omen X Emperium gaming monitor, from its super bright, detailed and smooth 4K visuals to its absolutely packed feature set. However, at a whopping $4,999, it’s tough to say whether it’s worth the cost for such a niche.

HP Omen X Emperium 65 Big Format Gaming Display (BFGD)

The HP Omen X Emperium 65, the first Nvidia Big Format Gaming Display (BFGD), is an epic, extravagant high-refresh mega-monitor. It's impossibly pricey and far from flawless, but play on it is unmatched, if you have the monster PC to support it.

Astounding image quality. Size and refresh rate combo is unique for a 4K gaming monitor. Nvidia Shield streaming built in. Matching, bundled soundbar. Nifty proximity lighting on ports.

Wildly expensive. Shield UI can be obtuse in places. Soundbar audio is ho-hum considering display cost. Meager default warranty.

Bottom Line: The HP Omen X Emperium 65, the first Nvidia Big Format Gaming Display (BFGD), is an epic, extravagant high-refresh mega-monitor. It's impossibly pricey and far from flawless, but play on it is unmatched, if you have the monster PC to...

HP Omen X Emperium 65 Review: Massive 144Hz 4K G-SYNC Gaming

The HP Omen X Emperium 65 is a massive NVIDIA BFGD gaming monitor, with support for G-SYNC Ultimate, HDR, and lag-free refresh rates up to 144Hz.

HP Omen X Emperium 65 BFGD review

Big Financial Gaming Decision.

Massive 4K 144Hz G-Sync display ; Impressive DCI-P3 color gamut

Disproportionately expensive price point ; 14ms response time ; Not OLED or IPS ; Mediocre default soundbar quality ; Doesn't include VESA mount or SPDIF cable

Whether you consider it a TV, a monitor, or both, the HP Omen Emperium 65 may present some compelling specs, but don't be fooled: the first-ever Nvidia BFGD makes some pretty unflattering sacrifices despite its extravagant $5,000 barrier to entry.
