Gateway XHD3000 Monitor (30-inch) review: Gateway XHD3000 Monitor (30-inch)

Gateway XHD3000 Monitor (30-inch)

A truckload of connections and extras; impressive performance in sharpness and color tests; sharp picture quality with DVD and Blu-ray playback.

Built-in sound gets distorted at high volumes; its look is somewhat clunky with the speaker bar attached; a tad expensive.

Although it costs more than competing 30-inch LCDs, the Gateway XHD3000 goes a long way toward justifying its high price with a long list of features and outstanding performance.

Gateway XHD3000 Extreme Display

It's a common complaint: hundreds of channels to choose from, and there's still never anything on TV. And the recent Writers' Guild strike has only made matters worse, cutting the TV season short and yielding endless repeats and reality shows. Even if...

Good picture quality. HQV processor offers excellent flexibility and scaling. High resolution. Flexible controls and PiP

Pricey. Other 30-inch displays offer wider color gamut. Minor backlight non-uniformity

Gateway's XHD3000 lets you connect a variety of devices, and does an excellent job displaying them at almost any resolution. It also offers one of the most flexible picture-in-picture features we've seen to date.

Gateway XHD3000

The Gateway XHD3000 offers 2560x1600 pixel resolution and has a built-in HQV processor. It can also act as a PC display, game console screen, and HDTV monitor. Can one monitor really be all things to all users?

Good picture quality. HQV processor offers excellent flexibility and scaling. High resolution. Flexible controls and PiP.

Pricey. Other 30-inch displays offer wider color gamut. Minor backlight non-uniformity.

XHD3000 30-inch Extreme HD LCD

Most 30-inch wide-screen monitors are finicky, inflexible beasts with few benefits beyond their high resolution and billboard-like size. Gateway's XHD3000 30-inch Extreme HD LCD bucks the trend, delivering excellent image quality along with lots of...

Review: Gateway XHD3000

When we heard awhile back that Gateway was cooking up an “extreme HD” display, we had a skeptical chuckle — what is this, a Mountain...

The ultimate choice for high-end performance. Variety of input options: HDMI, component and composite video, S-video, DVI and VGA. Self-powered, six-port USB hub built in. Advanced PIP lets you control window size, location on screen and transparency

Outlandish price tag. 6-millisecond response time is slow for such an advanced display. Color washes out in direct sunlight. Single HDMI and component inputs stunt the monitor’s potential

Gateway XHD3000 30-inch LCD Display Review

Gateway's new XHD3000 30-inch LCD display combines the power of an ultra high-resolution PC monitor (2650 x 1600) with an HQV Realta-equipped display that can handle anything from that new HD-DVD player or your HD satellite system. Gateway has taken...

Cool capacitance touch controls ; Highest resolution PC monitor available ; HQV Realta processing ; Component supports 1080p

Poor black levels (no backlight adjustment) ; Auto-input mode gets fooled by hibernation ; PIP only works with dual-link DVI-D ; Mediocre remote ; Most picture controls disabled for DVI-D

Gateway XHD3000

When we reviewed 30-inch desktop LCD monitors from Dell, HP, and Samsung back in May 2007, we were left saddened by the large-screen state of affairs. These monstrous widescreens offering unparalleled 2560x1600 resolution seemed like the perfect fit...

You’d think that with all the extras it offers, the XHD3000 would be more expensive than the competition. In fact, at $1,700 it’s priced lower than 30-inch models from Samsung, HP, and Apple and is only slightly more expensive than Dell’s 30-inch. If...

Gateway XHD3000

Don't panic: Gateway's impressive 1600p LCD doesn't want to make 1080p obsolete. It loves all your current high-def (and standard-def) sources as much as you do. Maybe more.

While 1600p is not expected to emerge as a new standard for broadcasts, packaged media or other video sources, none of those are really necessary, given the XHD3000's versatile, masterful upconversion. Whether or not you need this much display today,...
