Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus review: Widening the lead

Xiaomi stamps its class yet again in the budget segment with the spiritual successor to one of its blockbuster value champs.

Good build quality;Smooth performance;Good imaging quality in favorable lighting;Very affordable

Display is a little too dim and reflective;Camera is not optimal for night scenes;Competition is closing the gap in features and performance

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus Review: 2018's Budget Android Champion?

Chinese firm Xiaomi is the often referred to as the Apple of the East, but that's not simple hyperbole; this firm is a massive deal in its homeland thanks to its range of well-made smartphones which deliver a polished user experience at a low cost.

Amazing screen, good camera, fast fingerprint scanner

No NFC, no waterproofing

The Redmi 5 Plus is astonishingly good value for money and puts the efforts of its low-cost rivals to shame, but some may struggle with its China-focused software

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus review

So, no more Redmi Notes eh? The Redmi 5 Plus should clearly have been the Note 5, a successor of the Redmi Note 4, but Xiaomi wanted a fresh start. The fifth generation is trying to shake things up and the new look obviously called for a new name. So,...

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus Smartphone Review

Lots of screen for little money. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus offers a large display and a mid-range performance for less than 200 Euros (~$236). This sounds like a good offer, but let us look more closely in our test!

great speaker ; good voice quality ; hardly any bloatware ; bright screen with good color reproduction ; fairly powerful performance ; high-quality case

problems with the GPS receiver in some apps ; slow WLAN ; no Android 8 (yet) ; high power consumption in parts ; mediocre battery life

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus offers a modern 18:9 display format with small bezels, a good voice quality, a great speaker, a high-quality case, and decent performance values.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus review: Is this the best sub-£200 phone in the world? Review | ZDNet

The 5.99-inch Redmi 5 Plus looks, feels and performs like a much more expensive smartphone. It's not perfect, but the drawbacks are minor.

Excellent value ; Very good battery life ; Large, high-quality screen ; Decent cameras ; Well made and good looking

MicroUSB rather than Type-C ; No NFC ; Chipset not the most modern ; You'll need to buy one from China
