Sony's made a habit of updating its flagship phone every six months or so, and the Z3+ is the latest example. It's taken a little longer this time around, but the Z3+ is the ‘six-monthly' update to the Xperia Z3 that was launched in September last...
Fewer annoying flaps and ports ; Less-is-more approach to software ; Water and dustproof
Unacceptable overheating issues ; No optical image stabilisation ; Poor HDR photo mode

It's sleek and speedy, but has Sony released something exciting?
Nice design ; Waterproof ; Remote play is good ; Cheaper than competition ; No more flap over USB
Gets hot ; Disappointing camera ; Bloatware ; Frustrating battery life ; Doesn't have a wow factor
The Xperia Z3+ plays it a little too safe to vault above its competitors. It's a fine phone in its own right and has lots of promising features, but when compared with the latest flagships, it just doesn't cut it.

More of the same from Sony – but is that a bad thing?
Slimmer build ; Great media options ; More power
Only incremental upgrades ; Loads of pre-installs ; Disappointing battery

Sony has been moulding its Xperia Z-series flagship smartphone line into the perfect model. Well, it more-or-less achieved that with the Z3 towards the end of 2014, so for the new Z3+ to arrive mid-2015 led us to believe we'd be getting more hot stuff....
Decent 5.2-in screen, slender build, waterproof and dustproof, generally smooth software experience
Gets too hot, battery therefore insignificant, camera overheats and is approximately useless, laggy video recording, fussy shortcut controls
From the lofty highs of the Z3, the Xperia Z3+ is, ironically, a big minus against Sony's Z-series. It's hotted things up in terms of design, but also all too literally: that Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor gets excessively hot, causing issues with...

Sony has officially announced the successor to its flagship Xperia Z3 smartphone - which will be known as the Xperia Z3+ everywhere except Japan, where

The Sony Xperia Z3+ has looks to kill for, but it suffers from a serious overheating problem, poor battery life and software quirks.
The Sony Xperia Z3+ has a gorgeous minimalist design, a vivid screen and its waterproofing means it won't shut down the first time it gets dropped in the toilet.
It suffers from a worrying overheating issue, the battery life doesn't impress and the camera software is awkward to use.
While the Sony Xperia Z3+ is a great-looking bit of kit, its mediocre battery life, software quirks and of course its serious overheating issue makes it one to avoid.

The phone that isn't the Xperia Z4 (but is really)
Super-punchy screen ; Purer design ; Good performance
Prone to overheating ; Worse battery life than Z3 ; No particularly exciting upgrades
A solid and likeable phone with great battery life but overheating issues keep it from the top of the pile

Sony Xperia Z3+ review: A non-essential upgrade that would still be an excellent all-round smartphone, were it not for the overheating issues. Known in other...
Clear, colourful screen ; Strong cameras ; High-Res Audio ; Sexy design and waterproof
Overheating problems ; Short battery life for video
Sony’s Xperia Z3+ isn’t an essential upgrade if you already own the Xperia Z3 or even the Xperia Z2, with just a slight tweaking of the specs and a couple of new features to boast of. Those heating issues are also very real and concerning, especially...

Before we launch into the review, we want to explain the situation with the Xperia Z4. This has been announced in Japan for a little while and the Z3+ is the same device but for the rest of world. The two are essentially identical but the model in...
Like previous devices, the Sony Xperia Z3+ is a nice smartphone. Although we like the capless USB port and the addition of the Snapdragon 810, it's simply far too similar to the Xperia Z3 to justify an upgrade – perhaps owners of older generations will...

Eagle-eyed readers may have already spotted our Z3 Compact review, but now we're test-driving its bigger brother, the Sony Xperia Z3. Sony's Xperia Z3 family was...
Unique PlayStation implementation
Battery isn't quite as good as promised
If it isn’t clear, we’re just as bowled over by the Xperia Z3 as we were by its compact little brother. The big caveat is that as it shares so much of its hardware with its predecessor, it may not have the longevity of other devices hitting the market...
