Moto G5 Plus

For years now the Moto G5 has been the pinnacle of budget smartphones. Others have crammed in more specs and often a lower price, but none have constructed a phone that actually works like something that's double the price.

Moto G5 Plus review

Moto's latest Plus ups the design and cuts the price

Doesn’t look or feel like a budget phone ; Inventive one button nav ; Stellar design and value

Lacks NFC (in US) and Moto Mod support ; Battery isn’t removable ; Iffy camera performance

Refreshed from top to bottom, the Moto G5 Plus has redefined itself and it didn't even have to. The premium build, competent specs and low price will suit deal-seekers and phone enthusiasts alike.

Moto G5 Plus review: a five star phone with a three star camera

The G5 Plus is good, but murky photos and poor 4K let it down.

Premium look and feel ; Bargain basement price

No NFC in USA ; Unimpressive camera

Moto G5 Plus review: A big dose of premium, without the prohibitive price tag

Compared to the G4 Plus the G5 is better sized, better designed, better looking, and with NFC (in the UK model) along with that nifty gesture-control

For the money it’s the best phone in its class ; Fingerprint sensor and gesture controls work well ; Solid metal build quality ; Can run apps and games really well

Camera close-up focus is poor ; Screen has a protector that lacks fitted finesse ; Not the most vibrant screen ; Some slow load times ; Not sold on the gold

That's the crux of the Moto G5 Plus: you won't find a better phone for £250.

Moto G5 Plus review

It's £80 more than it's smaller brother but worth the extra if you can afford it. Find out why the G5 Plus is the best mid-range phone of 2017 so far.

The Moto G5 Plus is an impressive phone for under £250. It's barely any bigger than the normal model which is odd but it might well be worth spending the extra to get more storage, a better processor and a significantly better camera.

Motorola Moto G5 Plus review

Can the Moto G5 go big but stay budget?

Nippy performance for the cash ; Decent battery, with handy TurboCharging ; 4K video recording is a nice extra

Not as great value as the vanilla Moto G5 ; Screen only slightly bigger ; By-the-numbers design

A few bonus features over the standard Moto G5 don’t quite make up for the jump in price for this Plus-size model

Moto G5 Plus review: Everything the Moto G5 should have been (with an incredible camera)

£80 more than the Moto G5, but improved in (almost) every way

For years, the regular Moto G has been the one to go for, while the Moto G Plus version hasn’t been worth the extra cash. This year, the roles have flipped – and if you’re a keen photographer, nothing comes close in this price bracket. Or the one...
