2015 was the year of the affordable smartphone. During that time, we saw the release of some of the best value-for-money handsets ever made. Highlights included the Moto G, OnePlus X and Vodafone Smart Ultra 6.

Another enterprising offering from Microsoft
Great screen ; Good camera ; Low price
Missing Continuum ; Slow processor ; Lack of apps
With a great display, a nice design, good-enough battery life and a capable camera, the Lumia 650 makes a strong first impression. But a poor processor, lack of apps and buggy OS cause it to fall short of greatness.

Windows 10 is well and truly upon us and in case you didn't know Microsoft has made a big deal out of its Lumia phones. Plenty have arrived from the top end Lumia 950 to the Lumia 550. The latest edition is the affordable Lumia 650. The build quality...

It's got looks to spare, but with the future of Lumia and Windows Phone up in the air, this handset comes with a caveat emptor.
The Lumia 650 has a great design and a price that can't be beat.
It's missing some key new Windows phone features, like Continuum and Windows Hello.
As budget phones go, the Lumia 650 ticks most of the right boxes, but with Microsoft's phone future looking dim, you may want to pass.

A budget Windows phone that looks anything but cheap
Fancy metal rims ; Super-high contrast OLED screen ; Clever camera processing ; Decent selfies
Slow camera processing ; Feels slow in use ; Not great general-use stamina
Ultra-poppy screen and fancy build bits make a good first impression, but it doesn’t feel fast enough.

Lumia 650 review: We've spent a week with the new mid-range Microsoft Lumia. But how does this affordable Windows 10 phone stack up against it's rivals?
Crisp, colourful screen ; Slim and light metallic design ; Windows consistency
No Continuum ; Limited performance ; Camera struggles against rivals
The Lumia 650 finally introduces some premium design elements into Microsoft’s mid-range offerings and has a few positive elements that will appeal to the average consumer, including a strong screen for the £150 price point..

A Windows 10 phone that entirely misses the point of Windows 10
Smart appearance; Great OLED display; Decent battery life
No Continuum support; Very sluggish performance
All style and no substance, the Lumia 650 doesn’t have the speed to compete with its nearest competitors and its lack of Continuum means it misses out on Windows 10 Mobile's best feature

Lovely design, great display quality and a decent camera – all undermined by a horribly underpowered processor. How could you, Microsoft?
After first setting eyes on its slim form and understated design, I wanted to like the Microsoft Lumia 650. Its screen is great, the camera isn’t bad and there are plenty of elements of Windows 10 Mobile that I like.

Mainstream Microsoft. The new Lumia 650 from Microsoft wants to convince users with competitive pricing and obviously the Windows operating system. The manufacturer from Redmond targets business customers in particular. Because of the slow hardware,...
good build quality and sturdy case ; detachable rear cover ; replaceable battery ; storage expansion via microSD ; great AMOLED screen without PWM ; decent camera ; good GPS ; Microsoft Office
mediocre battery runtimes ; slow performance ; no USB cable or headset ; no Continuum or Windows Hello ; bad speaker ; weak PSU with fixed cable
The Microsoft Lumia is a decent successor to the old Lumia 640. The mainstream smartphone now uses the design language from the bigger siblings Lumia 950/Lumia 950 XL and we get a good chassis with a great AMOLED screen. After the review, however, we...
