Honor 8 review

An extraordinarily shiny Android phone with extraordinary specs

Alluring reflective glass design ; Neat fingerprint sensor gestures ; Bump-free dual camera design

Illogical software choices ; No OIS on the camera ; Competition offers better value

The Honor 8 is the fanciest-looking Android phone yet out of China, with an awesome, light-refracting glass design and high-end specs, but other less shiny budget phones offer better value.

Honor 8 review: A different take on the premium mid-range market

In the mid-range phone market there's a top dog: the OnePlus 3 . That phone has essentially blown the doors off what a device can provide at a £330 price point. And that, right there, is exactly the territory Honor - the subsidiary brand of Chinese...

Highly effective for the (anticipated) price point, looks great and is a step-up beyond the Honor 7 in all areas, dual cameras feature is quirky and fun, detailed controls of apps and battery life

Battery life could be better given the capacity, some graphical hangs, OnePlus 3 is a formidable competitor, fingerprint grease destroy the aesthetic style, EMUI re-skin can be fussy

As mid-level phones go the Honor 8 lays down some solid specification benchmarks for its £370 price. In reality, however, some of them don't quite live up to the paperwork: the battery life ought to be a little longer lasting, while the odd "hang" here...

Huawei Honor 8 review: Two cameras, at half the iPhone 7 Plus price

This well-crafted, midprice handset takes good photos with its double cameras, while saving you big bucks.

Huawei's Honor 8 is a slick little package that combines good photos from a dual-lens camera with a useful customizable button and a fingerprint reader. And it's easy to use one-handed.

Battery life falls short and knuckle gestures are gimmicky. It's a smudge magnet.

The Huawei Honor 8 is a likable midprice phone with some extra perks, but its short battery life holds it back.

Honor 8 Review: In Depth

Honor 8 Review: We were impressed when Chinese phone maker Honor unveiled its new flagship, which combines great specs and design into a sub £400 device.

Premium design ; Great screen ; Competent cameras

Fingerprint magnet ; Older processor

Whilst it isn’t going to give rivals like Apple or Samsung real cause for concern, the Honor 8 offers a great all-round experience for a competitive price in the flagship space, with more individuality than perhaps Sony’s latest X handsets..

Honor 8 review

The Honor 8 is a stylish phone, with a unique look, an impressive list of specifications and a dual-camera lens which takes spectacular photos and videos. However, it's challenged by the slightly cheaper and heavily praised OnePlus 3.

The Honor 8 is a fantastic smartphone, but the price has gone up from the Honor 7. In return for the additional expense you get a fantastic dual-camera, a sleek and stylish design, a faster fingerprint sensor and a beautiful display, which combined...

Honor 8 review

Top-notch specs for not too much wedge, but faces some competition for your cash

Gorgeous design, quality build – doesn’t feel “mid-range” at all ; Dual cameras take impressive photos ; Battery life to last all day

Beaten on price by OnePlus ; EMUI has crept into every nook and cranny

Familiar hardware that punches well above its weight, and a design to die for, but gets beaten down to second place by the cheaper OnePlus 3.

Honor 8 Review: Forget jet black; sapphire blue is where it’s at!

I've been using Honor's new flagship Honor 8 for a few weeks now, meaning it is finally time to put my thoughts into words, and hopefully help you decide if it's worth the highest price tag ever applied to an Honor branded phone. In case you're not...

Honor 8 review (hands-on): There's something special about Honor's new flagship

New flagship smartphone breaks new ground for budget brand Honor

The biggest difference between the two phones, however, is the price. Where the Huawei P9 sells for £449 from Huawei’s Vmall.eu website, the Honor 8 is a much more reasonable £370. That’s quite a step up in price over the Honor 7, which sold for £250...

Honor 8 Review: First Impressions

The Honor 8 looks to be good value for money, with flagship specs and a great design".

+ Low price ; + Premium design ; + Good camera

- No app drawer ; - Fingerprint magnet ; - Only 1080p

The Honor 8 looks to be a strong phone for its £370 price tag, but it’s not alone in undercutting the big name flagships, in fact it faces a lot of competition from the Huawei P9, which is made by the same company. That phone comes in at around £70...
