Huawei Ascend P1 review

Budget phone maker attempts to blag an upgrade to business class

Pure Android 4.0 option ; Smooth and fast ; Responsive, bright display ; Good battery life

Creaky, lightweight body ; Only 4GB of onboard storage ; Poor keyboard spellcheck ; No NFC

The Ascend P1 is the first of Huawei's high-power Android models to hit the UK, offering a large 4.3" display, coupled with a dual-core processor running at 1.5GHz, with front and rear cameras, DLNA support and full 1080p video capture abilities.

Huawei Ascend P1 LTE

We really liked the Huawei P1 that appeared earlier this year. A solid, likeable and barebones Android handset from the Chinese company that most people still haven't really heard of - and many can't pronounce. The Ascend P1 LTE is a solid phone....

Solid construction, good screen, responsive, pure Android experience

Not hugely exciting, the non-LTE P1 looked a lot better,

The Ascend P1 LTE is a solid phone. Really, we should love it, as it's a barebones Android experience for the most part, has speedy 4G and seems to manage well with its battery. And indeed, it's reliable and practical, but it's also a bit dull.

Huawei Ascend P1

The Huawei Ascend G300 is one of our favourite phones of the last year, at least in its price range of just £100. If you don't already know, Huawei is one of those firms you've probably never heard of but is huge and a key player behind the scenes....

Thin, fast and responsive, decent camera, minimal UI interference from Huawei, choice of 2D or 3D UI, good call quality

Slightly generic looking, Dolby Mobile adds little

Despite a slightly average-looking front, the P1 rescues itself with the thin design, and generally being nice to hold. We'd prefer a little more grip on the back of the handset, but this is a small point. The screen isn't so big as to make using the...

Huawei Ascend P1 LTE Review: In Depth

The Huawei Ascend P1 LTE is the 4G, chunkier version of the Ascend P1 we reviewed way back in July. Launched on Everything Everywhere's 4G...

Huawei Ascend P1 review

Svelte in the extreme ; Vibrant display ; Solid, if not overwhelming performance

Minuscule amount of onboard storage ; Choppy video capture

A stylish and powerful Android that's just one step behind the leaders of the pack

Huawei Ascend P1 review

The Huawei Ascend P1 has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with a qHD resolution of 960x540. The screen is coated with gorilla glass in a bid to prevent scratches and cracks. The display obviously can't compete with the very best screens on the...

The Huawei Ascend P1's light weight, good performance and decent battery life make it a phone well worth considering. However, the Ascend P1 isn't as competitively priced as many of Huawei's other Android phones and its questionable build quality...

Huawei Ascend P1 Review

The Huawei Ascend P1 has really impressed me during my time with it, it does almost everything that my One X does and it comes damn close to being as fast as that device too so for the stupidly low price of £234.99 Sim free it's a flipping bargain!...

Huawei Ascend P1 LTE

The Huawei Ascend P1 LTE is one of the very first 4G phones to hit the UK, alongside the likes of the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. It's also the very 4G phone to run open-source Android as Google designed - most manufacturers tend to...

The Huawei Ascend P1 LTE may look like the best value 4G phone on paper, but it's a false economy: if you must have blazing LTE speeds, you'd do well to pay the extra to nab a masterpiece like the Apple iPhone 5 or Samsung Galaxy S3. And if you want a...

Huawei Ascend P1 LTE 4G Review

Offering better download speeds than its predecessor, and a new design, the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE 4G also has an eight-megapixel snapper, qHD display and a dual-core chip, which all manage to impress.

4G compatibility; better design; Sharp qHD screen; decent 8MP snapper.

Design lacks the wow factor; 4G signal diminishes near the edges of a hotspot; onscreen keyboard is too complicated.

Huawei has updated it original Ascend P1 to offer 4G LTE compatibility. Apart from the design changes, little else has changed – there’s still an impressive eight-megapixel snapper and a powerful dual-core chip that can handle most games and apps and...
