HTC 8S

An affordable way to get on board the Windows Phone 8 train.

Cute, quirky design, Comfortable curvy back, Expandable storage via microSD slot, Speedy dual-core processor

Fairly low resolution screen, Strongly constrasting colours won't be to everyone's taste, Only a 5MP camera

HTC 8S review

One of the first Windows Phone 8 devices, but does this mid-range handset impress?

Stylish design ; MicroSD card slot ; Great social network integration ; Good for messaging

Lacklustre battery ; Slow browser ; Only 4 GB of internal storage ; No smart dialling

The HTC 8S is a good all round handset. It doesn't do a terrible job of anything but it also struggles to stand out. If you're set on Windows Phone 8 and don't want to drop a huge amount on a handset then for the time being this a good buy.

HTC 8S

A capable and fun, if feature-light, Windows Phone experience for a great budget price

Smooth and swift interface ; Easy to use ; Fun and colourful finish ; Decent sound and video quality for the price ; Expandable storage ; Budget price

Limited features ; No front-facing camera ; YouTube sound is bright ; Apps are thin on the ground at the moment

HTC Windows Phone 8S vs Nokia Lumia 820 video comparison review

The HTC Windows Phone 8S and the Nokia Lumia 820 are the cheapest Windows Phone 8 handsets around. The 8S has an understated two-tone design. At 10.3mm thick it is far from the thinnest phone around, but it doesn't feel bulky and at just 114 grammes,...

HTC Windows Phone 8S video review

It has a two-tone body with a rubberised finish. At 10 point 3 milimetres it is far from the thinnest phone around, but it doesn't feel bulky.

HTC Windows Phone 8S vs Nokia Lumia 820 smartphone comparison review

The Nokia Lumia 820 is a bit smaller than the massive Nokia Lumia 920, but much bigger and heavier than the 8S. At 68x124mm it's about as tall as the iPhone 5 but a little bit wider than the 8S. Nokia claims it's a reasonable 9.9mm thick but we...

The HTC Windows Phone 8S is the first Windows Phone 8 handset to fit into the mid-range price category. As such it's not quite the performer of the high-end Windows Phone 8 devices such as the bottom-of-the-high-end Lumia 820, but it's not so poor as...

HTC Windows Phone 8S review

HTC 8S review

A vision in ‘colour-dipped' polycarbonate, the HTC 8S continues the sterling work of its 4.3in sibling, the 8X, in flying the flag for supremely good-looking Windows Phone 8 hardware. Priced just £180 on Pay as You Go with Three or on contract from...
