HTC Desire 820 review

The super-powerful selfie phone

Brilliant UI ; Loud Boomsound speakers ; Powerful CPU ; Superb keyboard

Grainy selfies ; Noisy wide shots ; Low screen resolution ; Fiddly card slots

HTC has given the Desire 820 some really interesting party pieces in the form of a 64-bit processor, an 8MP selfie camera and low price tag, yet somehow misses its mark by some distance.

HTC Desire 820 review: Mixed performance mid-ranger

One of HTC's surprise successes over the past year has been in the Desire family. The Desire 816 sold well in Asia, was updated in the Desire 820 on review here and has a newer model waiting in the wings, the Desire 826 . The HTC Desire 820 has plenty...

Design, build, HTC Sense is nicely refined

Price, Battery life, display not the best, some sensors missing, so doesn't have a fully-packed feature set

The HTC Desire 820 has plenty to offer: it's a refined day-to-day experience, with the Sense 6 interface offering plenty to set it apart from the competition. And we're sure it will be updated to Android Lollipop at some stage in the future, which will...

HTC Desire 820 hands-on review

IFA 2014 doesn't bring many new products for HTC but the new Desire 820 is one of two new smartphone from the company as a cheaper alternative to the flagship One range. Here's our HTC Desire 820 hands-on review. See also: Best 40 smartphones you can...

We're waiting for an official UK price but we can predict the Desire 820 will cost around £300 and that's pretty good for a nice looking albeit plastic smartphone with a 13Mp rear camera and a 64-bit Octa-core processor ready for Android L. Look out...

HTC Desire 820 Smartphone Review

‘Phablet' is a term thrown around a lot these days, with some quick to brand anything bigger than 5-inches a phablet. Well today we look at the HTC Desire 820, a 5.5-inch smartphone which definitely fits within the phablet trend. With an asking price...

Strong performance.

Awful battery.

If you are after a mid-range phone, you may want to keep looking. While the Desire 820 is not bad, it’s not as good as the standard-setting OPPO R5.

HTC Desire 820 review

The HTC Desire 820 is one of the latest phones in the company's affordable blower range, only this model is a bit more phablet sized and crams in a hefty 5.5-inch screen for you to enjoy movies and websites on. Can it live up to its budget potential,...

The HTC Desire 820 is part of the Taiwanese phone maker’s budget range, but you wouldn’t think that at first glance. Its huge 5.5-inch screen is great for enjoying movies and YouTube videos on, and the simple, sturdy and flat design with curved corners...

HTC’s Blinkfeed is love or hate, and even if you don’t use it, you’re stuck with it on the homescreen where it’s just a swipe away. Sense 6, while also a decent addition to Android, may split users, especially if you’re after a much purer Android...

HTC Desire 820 review

HTC's latest mid-range phone is the Desire 820 -- an oversized 4G Android device with a big screen and big speakers for around half the price of the HTC One M9 hero handset. But is it a bargain?

Robust build, large HD screen, 13- and 8-megapixel cameras

Battery life not great, suffers in comparison with rivals

The HTC Desire 820 is a big, but mostly capable handset, with a splendid screen, great accompanying speakers, plus a decent -- if unspectacular processor. For the price, the 820's cameras also boast a good neumber of megapixels. However, for a similar...

HTC Desire 820 & Desire 820 dual SIM review: The doppelganger

The HTC Desire 820 is a typical member of the manufacturer's mid-range lineup. It bears all of the characteristic design features for the family - a two-tone unibody plastic shell, complete with particular color accents and an oversized camera lens on...

Available as Desire 820 dual SIM or Desire 820 with LTE support, cat. 4 LTE (150/50Mbps) ; 5.5" 720p Super LCD2 capacitive touchscreen, ambient light sensor ; Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 chipset (quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU & quad-core 1.0 GHz...

Glossy finish is a magnet for fingerprints ; Plastic is glossy and easily gets smudged and scratched ; Rather small 2,600mAh battery

In a lot of ways the HTC Desire 820 is the natural continuation of the mid-range handset line and can be considered more or less an upgraded version of the Desire 816. It is a solid device on its own, but HTC could have tried a little harder and...

HTC Desire 820 Smartphone Review

Pumped up. With the Desire 820, HTC introduces the more powerful successor to the Desire 816. Although equipped with a 64-bit capable Snapdragon 615 processor, the smartphone still runs the older Google Android 4.4.4 KitKat and features a slimmer build...

Powerful 64-bit CPU, Good graphics processor, Very good WLAN reception, Storage expandable, Low radiation levels

Touchscreen only recognizes two simultaneous inputs, No wireless display, No ac WiFi

The HTC Desire 820 is a logical progression and the successor to the Desire 816. As such, it does its job well: the smartphone comes equipped with an outstanding display, a speedy CPU and usable cameras. The SoC delivers the same performance regardless...
