VIDEO REVIEW: A very capable mid-range Android smartphone with a Nexus 5 shaped problem

Nice, classy design, Bright and clear screen, Decent general performance

Camera slightly inconsistent, Battery life a little weak, Mediocre built-in speaker

HTC Desire 500 review

With a quad-core processor for this price, something's gotta give, right?

MicroSD support ; BlinkFeed ; Decent camera ; Quad-core

Poor internal storage ; Low res screen ; Screen doesn't sit flush ; No 4G

Worth a look if you're after a phone that you can fill with music and use to take the odd snap, but it falters heavily if you plan to watch a lot of movies or install any apps on the very limited storage. The Galaxy S3 Mini is better.

The HTC Desire 500 is pitched at the entry-level, bringing the latest look and feel of HTC Sense 5.0 at a more affordable price than the premium flagship

HTC Desire 500 review

The HTC Desire is one of the best looking smartphones available right now. Measuring it at 131.8 x 66.9 x 9.9mm, it's about the perfect size in terms of fitting your hand and weighing just 123g it's not a brick either.

The HTC Desire 500 is a great-looking device, with tons of unique software and solid mid-range smartphone specs on board. It's hard to find any real weaknesses with the phone, including its reasonable £199 price tag. To sum up, it's simply a very good...

HTC Desire 500 review

The Desire 500 has a similar front-end to the HTC One (M8) and a good camera, but battery life and performance are both poor

The camera is one of many things we like about the HTC Desire 500. It has a great display, it's slim, light and good-looking, and we like the Sense skin. However, it's pricey compared to the Moto G, its battery life is poor and performance is sluggish.

HTC Desire 500

In the past I have often asked to review HTC devices as they looked smart and had little extra bits of quality. My name never seemed to come to the top of the list, with this unit however I was offered it I did not even have to ask.

HTC Desire 500 review

An affordable quad-core Android phone let down by poor timing

Affordable, quad-core processor, solid design, better than average battery life

Older Android version, screen could be better, not as good value as the Moto G

The Desire 500 is powered by a Lithium-ion 1,800mAh battery that HTC claims can last for around 13 hours of 3G use. The phone easily lived up to this claim with regular use. Taking the phone off charge in the morning and using it throughout the day,...

HTC Desire 500 review

HTC's One series is the place for the Taiwanese company's latesttechnology, but its midrange Desire handsets benefit from thetrickle-down effect, for a fraction of the price. The Desire 500has a great look, but does its spec really justify the price?...

Distinctive good looks, Sense UI, good camera

Screen could be sharper, processor on the sluggish side, only4GB memory on board

The HTC Desire 500 is a decent midrange phone with a good look, but the so-so screen and processor are starting to look a bitbehind the curve for the price, with the likes of the Moto Goffering more for less.
