Updated: Should you still buy the Nexus 5X?

Nexus 5X review

Google's palm-friendly handset puts function over form

One-hand friendly ; 5.2-inch display ; Android Oreo compatible

Starts at 16GB of internal storage ; Your microUSB cables are useless ; No wireless charging capabilities

Google's compact Nexus 5X has aged rather well and it's still among the first devices around to be stocked with new software. Now, it comes cheaper than before and if you can stand the plastic build, it's a great choice.

Google Nexus 5X review

A smartphone with all the cutting-edge features, but at a budget price

Good design and performance ; Latest Android features ; Fast and intuitive to use ; Budget price

Rivals offer more accurate video and audio performance ; Camera needs to improve ; No expandable memory or storage

A good budget smartphone that does it all – and performs better (in overall terms) than its flagship alternative

Nexus 5X review: Not quite got the X factor

Having spent two weeks using the Nexus 5X - the Google device made by LG - we think it's a great little Android phone. You'll hear people talk about how plasticky it feels and so on, but really, who cares about that? It's a mid-range phone, but one...

Affordable price, fast rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, sharp 1080p display, 12MP rear camera with 4K video, USB Type-C charging, runs Android Marshmallow, supports most networks across the world, works with Project Fi and Nexus Protect, solid...

Plastic body, non Quad-HD display, crappy speakers, poor battery life, no wireless charging, slow & bare-bones stock camera app, only 2GB of RAM, and no support for USB Type-C data transfer speeds, no microSD storage, no optical image stabilisation

After all that we get the feeling the earlier Nexus 5, from 2013 , looks and feels much better than the current Nexus 5X. Sure, the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and 1080p display make the 5X worth upgrading to, but it hasn't quite got the X factor...

Google Nexus 5X review

One of the launch devices for Android 6.0 Marshmallow was the Nexus 5X. It has a great screen and camera, but some frustrating niggles too. Now that it's £40 cheaper, find out if it's right for you in our Google Nexus 5X review.

Those looking to upgrade from a Nexus 5 will be happy and sad in almost equal measure. The 5X is a fantastic phone overall, with excellent cameras, a good turn of speed and an excellent screen. But it's noticeably bigger than its predecessor despite...

Google Nexus 5X review

This LG-made Nexus is the great everyman of Android

Great value ; Slick performance ; Top-notch finger scanner ; Very good photo quality

Feels a bit cheap ; Battery life is mediocre ; USB-C will prove a pain to some

Every bit the successor to the Nexus 5, this is a mid-range smash

Google Nexus 5X review: The lightweight, affordable choice for Android purists

This no-frills $379 smartphone is fast, but it may leave you wanting more.

The Google Nexus 5X offers great performance, wide carrier compatibility, great pictures, an excellent fingerprint sensor and a relatively small, lightweight chassis, all for a fairly low price.

Battery life can be a little weak, and the Nexus 5X looks and feels cheap compared to similarly priced phones. The front-facing speaker sounds terrible.

The LG-built Google Nexus 5X is a fantastic pick for people who want a relatively small, lightweight smartphone with excellent value for money.
