Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 (4.7) review

Although it can't match the top-spec smartphones for all-round ability, the Alcatel is a fine alternative for those on a budget...

Great video and sound for the money Impressive camera software

Good for the price, but not up to flagship standards

We’re very impressed with the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3. It’s a midrange phone that punches well above its weight, and at almost a third of the price, the big flagship models have cause for concern. It’s not perfect, but if you’re not after a premium...

Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 review: This phone proves there's still merit in smaller screens

The portable budget handset hides some excellent hardware and software touches that belie its low price.

The Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 (4.7) has a portable, compact size and delivers solid performance across the board for a budget price. Hardware and software extras add value.

Stumbling blocks include its harder-to-use camera app and won't work on every global carrier.

A rare smaller-screen Android handset that's worth its price, Alcatel's 4.7-inch Idol 3 is a solid buy for those seeking a low-cost, sub-5-inch phone.

Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 4.7 review

Mid-range specs at a sensible price? We wouldn't blame you for being interested

Strong screen ; Decent battery life ; Super-loud speakers ; An all-round tasteful phone

Annoying keyboard lag ; Impersonation metal is so last season ; Screen not as scratch resistant as some

Alcatel OneTouch’s best phone yet is a petite palm-charmer

Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 review: An Android phone that's worth your time and money

Reliable budget handsets don't grow on trees. This midrange cheapy has a touch of class, and a unique software bonus.

The mega-affordable Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 has a large screen and takes nice outdoor photos. It wins bonus points for loud external speakers and a useful mode to use the OS upside-down as well as right-side-up.

Its performance is a little sluggish, its low-light photography is poor and the OS lacks a few useful shortcuts common to other Android phones.

Delivering midrange features at an entry-level price, the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 is the company's best smartphone to date -- and a great deal for the money.

Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 hands-on review

You may have never heard of Alcatel but the company, which is a joint venture between Alcatel Lucent of France and TCL Communication of China, is making increasingly attractive devices including smartphones, tablets and wearables.

Alcatel OneTouch is definitely one to look out for this year. The Idol 3 comes in two different sizes with an attractive and reversible design. Specs look great for the price with a lot more on offer at 5.5in if that's not too big compared to 4.7in....

Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 review

  (Rating Hidden)

Alcatel is a Chinese-owned mobile phone brand hoping to claim a slice of the affordable mobile phone market. The Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 is part of this plan - it's a 4.7-inch Android mobile. We like the fact it comes with a micro-SD card slot which...

Alcatel's latest handset fixes a lot of issues with previous Onetouches. Is it the mid-range handset to beat?

Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 4.7

Among those advantages is a slim, compact silhouette and a reversible software interface that lets you grab up the phone any which way without fumbling for "up." Strong JBL dual speakers also pump out tunes and conference calls better than most in this...

Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 4.7 (Unlocked)

The Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 4.7 is an affordable and compact unlocked smartphone that punches above its weight on performance, but it's still hard to recommend over the Moto G.

Wallet-friendly price. Attractive design. Solid build quality. Crisp display. 4G LTE connectivity. Loud speakers.

Camera struggles in low light. Limited RAM for multitasking. Small battery.

Conclusions The Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 4.7 is a $180 phone that looks and handles like a $350 phone. Under any other circumstances, I'd give it my wholehearted recommendation. The problem is that the same-price Moto G offers a customizable design via...

Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 (Unlocked)

The unlocked Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 is an exceptional Android smartphone value that more than lives up to its lofty spec sheet.

Aggressive price. Top-notch 5.5-inch, full HD LCD. Attractive and well-built. 4G LTE connectivity

Merely average battery life and call quality

Alcatel is in the business of producing dirt-cheap smartphones, and has been for years now, but with few exceptions, you get what you paid for—at best cheap, at worst dirt. The One Touch Idol 3 is out to change perceptions. It lists at $279.99, but you...
