Philips' basic media box is great for Netflix but otherwise limited
Compact design ; Crisp picture quality ; Attractive onscreen menus
Sluggish operation & clunky remote ; Limited web content (no iPlayer) ; No DTS or DivX support
Great, but Philips missed an opportunity by omitting DLNA or uPnP network streaming from the feature list, which would have enhanced its credentials as an all-round media player.

There is no doubt that 2012 will be the year of the smart TV. But if you already own a TV, and don't want to upgrade it just to get access to internet services, then don't despair, you have options. Priced at a penny under £50, the Philips HMP2000...
Simple, compact, great quality video, price
Limited functions, poor remote
Priced at a penny under £50, the Philips HMP2000 Smart Media Box is almost cheap enough to be an impulse buy. There are plenty of more fully featured solutions out there that do much more, but for Netflix customers, it's an easy win.

The Philips HMP2000 can add Netflix streaming content to any TV with an HDMI socket – but little else.
If all you want is Netflix the Philips HMP2000 can be recommended, but other devices costing only a little more, offer a great deal more usefulness. The glaring omissions are BBC iPlayer and DLNA connectivity.

Review Philips describes its new HMP2000 as a ‘smart media box', along the lines of rivals such as the AppleTV and Western Digital's WDTV Live [1]. However, it would probably be more accurate to describe it as a Netflix [2] box, since Netflix is...
If your existing HD TV doesn’t have Internet connectivity already built in then, if you shop around, for a mere £45 the HMP2000 does provide a quick and affordable way of using your TV with your new Netflix account. However, the lack of additional VOD...

A quick fix for Netflix, but this Wi-Fi box isn't as smart as it could be. Boxee, WD Live and other tiny streamers are trying their...
Excellent Netflix & YouTube presentation, affordable, small size, WiFi, file support over USB
Patchy AVI support, lacks BBC iPlayer, no DLNA/UPnP streaming
The lack of media streaming and BBC iPlayer hampers this otherwise spick-and-span smart TV add-on, but purely judged as a Netflix box it appears good value. Netflix integration is excellent and digital file support from a USB stick is comprehensive...

Smart TV is gaining traction, but not everybody wants to upgrade every set in their house just to add native streaming support for Netflix and similar services. Philips believes it has the answer with the HMP2000 , a compact Netflix adapter that also...
There’s plenty to like about the Philips HMP2000: setup is straightforward, navigation is user-friendly, and it does what it promises without fuss. The potentially limiting factor is how onboard you are with streaming services, since if you harbor...
