D-link DSM-510 media streamer

Accompanying D-link's revised collection of media streamers is the compact and portable DSM-510, an Intel Viiv oriented media streamer designed to offer access to digital content through a wireless or wired network, local USB storage or Viiv's online...

Impressive streaming performance, very portable, range of content available through Viiv

A tad uninspiring if you can't utilise Intel's service, minor interface and operation issues

If you don't have Viiv support, and can cope with being tied into Windows Media Player 11, the DSM-510 offers a well designed and adaptable solution for streaming content around the home. If you can use it to its potential you'll find an impressive...

D-Link DSM-510: Save a little, lose a lot

HDMI connection, Support wide array of video formats, Handles third-party UPnP AV servers well

Requires WinXP/2000 PC to transcode many video formats, Bundled Nero MediaHome server a pain to use, Not much cheaper than DSM-520, but requires transcoding PC

Mid-priced UPnP AV multiformat photo, audio and video player supporting up to 1080i

I will continue to buy Dlink products, but they really dropped the ball on this device. Maybe with some decent firmware updates this will be a worthwhile investment, but at the rate they put out updates I will have bought a new device.

The picture quality is excellent and the audio is on par as well. Takes a home theater from needing a huge HTPC to this little tiny box. Ability to use wireless is a plus for certain scenarios. I definitely prefer the wired route, more stable.

I own many and only D-Link products and love all of them, but this product has left a sour taste in my mouth. The packaged software is WORTHLESS! It doesn't transcode properly and when it does you can only use it for the 30 day trial period! The...
