Buffalo LinkTheater PC-P4LWAG review: Buffalo LinkTheater PC-P4LWAG

Buffalo LinkTheater PC-P4LWAG

Streams movies, music, and photos using wireless 802.11g or wired Ethernet; handles DRM-protected WMAs; reliable wireless streaming performance; capable of outputting multichannel Dolby Digital sound; outputs video and images at resolutions up to 720p.

No HDMI or DVI output; no 802.11n Wi-Fi; doesn't support Rhapsody or iTunes-purchased songs, nor even non-DRM iTunes tracks; can't play Internet radio streams without using PC as a conduit; its interface is sluggish, sometimes painfully slow; the unit...

Although it offers reliable streaming, the Buffalo LinkTheater Wireless-A&G PC-P4LWAG is ultimately hampered by its sluggish navigation, limited feature set, and other quirks.

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Simply so-so

With some firmware upgrades the unit has a lot of potential, but as it ships it is very frustrating. I have yet to find a DiVx file it will actually play, but it plays all the avi files I have thrown at it. I have two of these units and I am actively...

Once you connect to the streaming source you want and navigate to the file you want to play, it plays the file just fine

It does not maintain a connection to the network device once a movie is finished. You have to back all the way up to the main menu and re-connect to your network, select the streaming service and then select a new movie. If you add a new movie to a...

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Perfect for me

Great player, and I'd recommend it to anyone. The little things I consider cons are almost expected from these low-end products. I have no doubt this product will work well for many years. Easy set-up, fast streaming, and it seems to be a solid device.

Setup is easy and fast. Streams fast, even with large divx files (full movies). I have it set up on a wireless network, and feel zero drag when playing media. The interface could be a little better, but overall, it is very good and easy to navigate....

This is the reason for the non-perfect score. This device, as with all cheap electronics, is still solid, but little time was put into the design of the software. It works very well and fast, but you can tell it was designed by some engineers. When you...
