Asus O!Play HDP-R1 HD Media Player

This HD media player has among the best file format support we've seen and has basic network abilities to boot.

Easy to set up ; Connects to home network ; Extensive format support

Lack of iTunes support ; Uninspired design ; Preview load lag time

The Asus O!Play HDP-R1 is in many ways a fairly uninspiring HD media player; its interface is very stark, the device itself and the remote are hardly works of art, and there's no support for more sophisticated network functions like reading iTunes...

Asus O!Play HDP-R1 review

The media streamer that plays everything - but is it any good?

Great compatibility ; USB access works great ; Nice remote control

PC streaming doesn't work ; Serious firmware problems ; It's too easy to 'brick' ; No WiFi

ASUS O!Play HDP-R1 review

We found the ASUS O!Play HDP-R1 to be easy to use and it performed all its intended tasks well, except for Internet video streaming. It also took some fiddling to get it to work with Windows 7. But the bottom line is that it's a good little HD streamer...

We enjoyed using this media streamer. It worked well during our tests and the new firmware added some very useful features. It streamed standard- and high-definition content without any performance issues through our network and off drives we plugged...

ASUS O!Play HDP-R1 media streamer

ASUS' latest media streamer may not look special, but it handles almost all file types with ease.

Diverse file format support, eSATA connection, decent price tag

Music file playback is very basic, some problems streaming from Windows PCs, no wireless connectivity

If cost is an important factor, ASUS' O!Play HDP-R1 media streaming solution is hard to pass up. It can handle almost anything you throw at it and has a simple (but not bland) interface.

Asus O!Play HDP-R1

Connect a hard disk, and start watching photos/movies and play songs. This media player can reduce the requirement for a HTPC.

File-format support ; Network port

DVD Players are far cheaper

You can connect this to your TV and settle for some quality multimedia time, secure in the knowledge that you can throw almost any file at it for playback. It is priced low enough to appeal to the target audience. But remember that it is not positioned...

ASUS O!Play HDP-R1 HD Media Player Review

A media player!? Despite diving into the tech world every day, this type of device was not on my radar. What is this little black box capable of? Let's find out.

I do not see the ASUS HDP-R1 as a direct replacement to either the typical DVD/BD player or the HTPC since it cannot read physical media - yet. The development team over at ASUS knows that supporting a USB or eSATA external optical drive would be a...

Asus O!Play HDP-R1 Digital Media Player

Perhaps one the more significant defining digital attributes of the first decade of the the 21st Century could be the size of the ginormous digital media collections so many of us have amassed--media collections made of up a disparate assortment of...

HDMI output ; 1080p support ; Lots of supported video formats ; View photos and HD video files on your TV

Aspect ratio issues with video and photos ; No search capabilities ; Flaky network connectivity ; Can't connect to Windows 7 systems (yet)

As to using the O!Play to play media from direct-connected USB storage sources, we’re not sure if it is really worth the time it takes to physically copy files to a removable hard drive or flash drive just to be able to view them on a TV. Accessing...
