Asus O!Play Air HDP-R3

Asus adds a memory card reader and Wi-Fi to its latest media player.

Great media support ; Silent ; Easy set up

Bulky ; Average UI ; No WiFi

Round the back are the main AV connections with three phono plugs for stereo audio and composite video, followed by optical digital audio, HDMI, an Ethernet port, and power. In an ideal world we would like to see component video as well, as it gives a...

Asus - O! Play Air HDP-R3

The era of the media PC is surely shuffling away, as more and more capable media player devices come to market. And in the past year especially they seem to have become suitably refined, reading media ...

An impressive and very capable media client, although you do pay a little more for it than some of the competition. Still, a welcome step in the right direction for Asus and another competitor in an increasingly interesting and broad home media...

If you need wireless support and aren’t that bothered with regular firmware updates or lack of a bundled HDMI cable then the Asus is a good choice, if you can find it on sale.

Asus O!Play Air HDP-R3 Media Player Review

It's arguably near the end of the road for the home theatre PC. Bespoke media players are taking over the home theatre market with force and beating them in price and ease of use. There are always some of you which will always enjoy the customisation...

There's no component output either so you must have a HDMI compatible TV to watch HD resolutions. The competing AC Ryan PlayON! products still include it, although it can be forgiven seeing as component is classed as an "old" connection these days anyway

The ASUS O!Play Air is a solid choice if you are looking for a “do everything” set-top box. The internal wireless-N capability is huge plus for those who need it, but just don't rely on the player to wirelessly stream any media files over 720p...

ASUS O!Play Air HDP-R3

An HD media player to supplement your home theater system.

Taking into consideration of the total package of playback possibilities all wrapped up in a neat platform that is selling for an average price of approximately $126 USD we have to give this player a definite 'Thumbs Up'. The ability to stream our home...

Software and firmware are not polished

I bought the LAN version (HDP-R1) before buying this one, so I totally aware of the problems, as they share most of the functionalities and the code. Have to buy again because this is the only device that works with RMVB format and so many types of...

Can play almost everything except for APE. Online media streaming works for most of the built-in channels

Software (the one on the CD) and the firmware are way too unprofessional. The remote only works when it points exactly to the device, and the firmware responds with a noticeable delay. Even when you turn off the device, it takes quite a few seconds to...

Excellent Media PC replacement

You owe it to yourself to buy one of these.

Small and neat-looking. Beats the heck out of the Media Center PC I had hooked up to my television ; Built in wireless is super handy ; The menu is simple. No bells and whistles, which is perfect because too much in this case would be...too much ; You...

Netflix would be awesome ; Rewind is really slow for some reason. It could be due to the speed of my external drive ; When you're purchasing external storage to go along with this unit, spring for the faster eSATA
