The launch of the Tokina AT-X 165 16-50 mm f/2.8 PRO DX lens was perhaps one of the most awaited events on the optical market recently. At the beginning of 2006 there were rumours that Tokina planned to launch four new lenses with the following...

very solid barrel ; excellent image quality at the beginning and in the middle of the focal lengths range ; good at the longest focal length ; slight astigmatism ; relatively efficient autofocus

weak performance by f/2.8 and at 50 mm focal length ; enormous chromatic aberration at 16 mm ; high vignetting ; noticeable coma

Love this lens. Good all purpose for my D7000. Fast focus. Sharp at all apertures. I don't hesitate to shoot at 2.8 all day.

Sharpness.Build quality.Nice big glass elements make for awesome pics.Good video lens and eliminates most need for primes

None! Other than high-ish price for a used lens. This is a bonus actually as they retain their resale value

Its almost impossible to find reviews for this lens on a Canon mount (Photozone did a Nikon-mount review.)

Center Sharpness at all focal lengths and Aperture settings ; Best build quality in this class by far ; To a layman, if you took the same picture with the Canon, they couldn't tell the difference
