Tamron AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro Review

Great sharpness at 55mm, Low falloff, Lightweight, Compact, Very inexpensive

CA at 200m and maximum aperture, Needs stopping down for best results, Narrow, undamped manual focus ring.

Tamron AF 55-200 mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro

A lens with focal lengths in the 55 - 200 mm range is one of the most popular zoom telephoto devices. Along with a kit lens it gives you the focal range sufficiently wide to cover most of amateur usages. Small wonder also the Tamron company decided to...

good resolution in the frame centre, especially at 55 mm ; practically no distortion at 55 mm ; negligible astigmatism ; imperceptible vignetting on stopping down the aperture by one stop ; good f/4.0 fastness, kept up to 135 mm focal length ;...

noticeable chromatic aberration, especially at 200 mm ; visible coma ; susceptibility to inner flares at all focal lengths ; slow and noisy autofocus

Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 LD Macro

Review of the Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 LD Macro lens

Excellent image quality at shorter focal lengths

Minute manual focusing ring

The Tamron excels at wide apertures and short-to-medium focal lengths but is numerically weaker at the 200mm setting. Overall this is a very competent and good-looking lens that should appeal to everyone other than photographers for whom a practical...

Tamron AF 55-200mm F/4-5.6 Di-II LD Macro

Tamron's 55-200mm lens is designed specifically for smaller digital sensors. Made from 13 elements in 9 groups, the optical train features one Low Dispersion element (LD) and also features macro capability...

Macro throughout, image quality

Small manual focusing ring

Really a budget or starter lens, reasonably priced, but lacking the fast maximum aperture and expensive glass of more professional lenses

Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 LD Macro Di ll

Tamron AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di ll LD MACRO test

Amazing optical quality for a budget lens; Price makes excellent value for money; Hood included

AF is a little slow and noisy

Not the lightest in class and not the best build quality in class (but not the worst either), this offering from Tamron is certainly one of the cheapest in class and optically the best performer by a long way. The trend with this type of lens to rely...

REVIEW: Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 LD Macro Di ll

Becoming a popular focal length range for purchase as a second lens on cropped sensors, starting at the points where most kit lenses finish. We take a look at how this offering from Tamron, designed for cropped sensors only, performs.

Amazing optical quality for a budget lens; Price makes excellent value for money; Hood included

Plastic mount (can wear if much lens changing is practiced); AF is a little slow and noisy

Not the lightest in class and not the best build quality in class (but not the worst either), this offering from Tamron is certainly one of the cheapest in class and optically the best performer by a long way. The trend with this type of lens to rely...

Tamron AF 55-200 mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro

I use it mostly for shooting people (not sports) outdoors, due to good center sharpness even wide open it is very suitable for this purpose. Not so good for sports due to slow AF, wildlife (no IS, 200 mm not great). Almost unbeatable price/permance ratio.

extremely sharp in the center up to 70 mm, very good up to 135 mm, light, decent build quality for the price, included hood, f=4 up to 135 mm is nice

AF noisy and not very fast (but accurate), no IS (cannot be expected at this price), not so hot with noticeable CAs at the long end (like most cheap telezooms)
