Tamron SP AF 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 Di II LD Asp review

An aggressively priced wide angle zoom

Good value

Clunky AF ; Flare and ghosting evident

It's a reasonable buy for the money, especially if it's only for occasional use

Tamron SP AF 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 Di II LD Asp

Although the Tamron 11-18mm might not look quite as wide as the rival Sigma 10-20mm on paper (a millimetre can make a lot of difference at these focal lengths), the field of view was almost identical in our tests, using both on a Canon EOS 400D

Tamron SP AF 11-18mm f/4.5 - 5.6 Di II LD Aspherical

It may have a long name but the Tamron's focal length range is short, covering the equivalent of just 16.5-27mm...

Good contrast

CA issues, sharpness fall-off at corners

The Tamron is lacking compared to the others. It's not a bad lens on its own, but doesn't stand up to the competition

Tamron SP AF 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 DiII LD Aspherical (IF

This lens is Tamron's entry into the ultra-wide zoom category lenses that are designed for cropped sensors only. Tamron's designation for this is the DiII suffix. Ultra wide zooms of this type are a fairly new phenomenon so we take a look here at how...

Good control of distortions; Good contrast and colour rendition; Lightweight and comfortable in use

Fall-off in quality towards the edges

This lens goes a long way in overcoming the biggest drawback of the cropped digital sensor, that of wide-angle coverage. The light weight, which possibly compromises build quality slightly, reduces the penalty incurred by carrying extra lenses. The...

Tamron SP AF11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 Di-II LD [IF]

The 11-18mm lens from Tamron is pretty lightweight wide angle lens that shares a chunky design with a large manual focus ring.

Tamron 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 Di II SP AF Review Round-Up

The Tamron AF 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 Di II SP is surely capable to deliver decent quality images but the truth is that the competition is generally better in most aspects. Regarding the comparatively slow speed (max. aperture), the subjectively lower build...
