Sony DT 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6

A general purpose 6.5x zoom lens for APS-C sensor Sony and Minolta digital SLR cameras offering a wide-angle equivalent of a 24mm lens on a full-frame camera.

Useful zoom range; Good build quality; Good centre resolution at the shorter end of the zoom range

Prone to flare

Sony DT 16-105 mm f/3.5-5.6

In September 2007, along with an A700 reflex camera, a Sony DT 16-105 MM F/3.5-5.6 lens hit shop shelves. I must admit I was very surprised by this launch. Sony, with the support of Zeiss, Tamron and also Minolta products which had been on the market...

solid, tasteful and compact barrel in the same time ; very universal and unparalleled focal lengths range ; excellent or very good frame center image quality ; very good frame edge image quality at shorter focal lengths ; chromatic aberration...

Sony DT 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6

Review of the Sony DT 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6 lens

Good short-end resolution from f/5.6

Poor resolution at longer focal lengths after f/11

The 16-105mm looks like a great all-rounder and works well across often-used aperture settings, but its performance at the longer focal lengths leaves something to be desired, which rather defeats the point of having an extended zoom range! The lack of...

REVIEW: Sony DT 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6

Sony's DT 16-105mm f/4.5-5.6 is a general 'walk about' lens that costs around £480 and covers popular focal lengths equivalent to a 24-157.4mm lens on a full-frame camera. Lenses like this tend to be a popular upgrade for those looking for a little...

Useful zoom range; Good build quality; Good centre resolution at the shorter end of the zoom range

Resolution towards edges of the frame from 50mm onwards; Barrel distortion at 16mm; Prone to flare

This lens is certainly capable of producing more than satisfactory results if used within its limitations, it just may pay to be fully aware of its shortcomings so you are not disappointed.

Sony DT 16-105mm 1:3.5-5.6 Lens Review

The Sony DT 16-105mm 1:3.5-5.6 was announced in September 2007, as a premium kit lens to accompany the Alpha 700 DSLR. Sony has thankfully (and uncharacteristically) managed to avoid the over-proliferation of letters which afflict lens names from other...

Hugely useful wide angle to telephoto range - arguably the most flexible currently available ; Extremely sharp at wide angle ; Impressive resistance to flare ; Small size and lightweight ; Good build quality

Chromatic aberration at both wideangle and telephoto ends ; Extremely soft in the middle of the zoom range at wider apertures ; Somewhat soft at telephoto ; Stiff manual focus ring with excessively short travel

The Sony DT 16-105mm F3.5-5.6 is a lens which certainly promises a lot, with a tremendously useful zoom range wrapped up in a surprisingly compact body. It may not at first glance have the headline-grabbing attraction of those superzooms which sport...

Sony DT 16-105mm F/3.5-5.6

Bought as an upgrade from the standard kit lens. I wanted one lens to use as an all rounder an I find this does the job and is easily worth paying the extra for. Resolution is far superior to the standard lens. I also own a 70-300mm but find it...

Manual focus ring has a slight amount of play in it which can be a tad annoying when trying to make minor adjustments.

Excellent carry around lens that does every thing well.

A lot larger than the older 24-105. Zoom action is not as smooth as older Minolta lenses

Sony SAL-16105

Everything about tis lens. I needed to buy a lens that I could pair with my A77 for trips abroad when I want to travel light with one lens. After research this is the lens I chose. I have used it a few times and to date have no complaints whatsoever....

None really. It would have been great to have had fixed 2.8 from 16 - 105, but this would have probably doubled the weight (at least) and trebled the price. So happy with what I have - suits my purposes.
