Sony 100mm f/2.8 Macro review

Life-size magnification and a handy auto clutch mechanism on this lens

Impressive mid-range results ; Attractive and durable design

Expensive for what you get ; Problems at extreme apertures ; Inconvenient focus fine-tuning

Based on the previous Minolta 100mm macro lens, the Sony 100mm f/2.8 Macro is one of two current Sony macro options, the other being the shorter 50mm f/2.8 lens. It's compatible with both full-frame DSLRs and Sony's extensive range of APS-C Alpha...

Sony 100mm f/2.8 macro

The Sony 100mm f/2.8 macro is one of the lenses that survived from the Minolta era.Naturally it has been redesigned to match the look and feel of Sony Alpha lens seriesbut under the skin little if anything has changed. It it, obviously, a (full format)...

The Sony 100mm f/2.8 macro is able to produce very sharp results combined with a negligibleamount of distortions, vignetting and lateral CAs. However, longitudinal (axial) chromatic aberrations can be quite a problem in out-focus areas (f/2.8-f/5.6)...

Sony 100mm f/2.8 Macro

There's a lot of 'retro' about this Sony lens, from its appearance and finely ridged focus ring to the grumbling autofocus motor. The autofocus also seems as slow and imprecise as anything from 25 years ago

Good optics in general

Overpriced, Terrible autofocus

A vastly overpriced lens, given the poor performance it put in

Sony 100mm f/2.8 D

Sony has two macro lenses in its current range and the bigger brother to the 50mm f/2.8 D AF is this 100mm f/2.8 D lens. Featuring a construction of 8 elements in 8 groups, it has a predominantly plastic finish and weighs in at 505g.

Similar to a neutral density filter that increases in density towards the edges, the apodization element creates beautiful transitions of in-focus to out-of-focus areas within an image, making for exceptionally soft, smooth bokeh that adds depth and...

Sony 100mm f/2.8 Macro SAL-100M28 Review

When mounted on the A700, the Sony 100mm ƒ/2.8 macro provided excellent results almost across the board; the only possible objection would be that it wasn't tack-sharp at ƒ/2.8, but at 1.5 blur units, to ask for more would be very demanding.

Sony SAL-100M28 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens

The superb macro-focus lens for both close-up and distant subjects. This versatile macro-focus lens covers a wide range of photographic applications, from close-up nature subjects to midrange telephoto shots -- making it ideal to carry on location or...

You can get closer to your subject to capture low-angle shots of insects, flowers and other natural wonders -- and broad depth of field lets you keep backgrounds in focus too

Nice Lens

Nice lens, good contrast , but quite a bit of focus hunting in my lens! Light weight lens and feels cheep but I am very satisfied results with the resulting images.

Awesome Addition

I absolutely love this lens!!! It's a perfect addition to my collection. I have been taking photos of flowers for a long time, but I never had a decent macro lens that would allow me to get those extra details. This lens produces some high quality...
