Nikon Nikkor AF-S 70-200 mm f/2.8G ED VR II

Not so long ago it seemed that Nikon didn't have to change anything in its offer of 70-200 mm class journalistic lenses. The company offered its customers two models: the AF 80–200mm f/2.8D ED, which was characterized by good price/quality ratio but...

high build quality ; splendid image quality in the frame centre ; very good image quality at the frame edge ; low chromatic aberration ; slight distortion ; well-corrected coma ; low astigmatism ; relatively well-corrected vignetting ; fast, silent and...

Nikon 70-200mm AF-S f/2.8G ED VR II

The Nikon 70-200mm AF-S f/2.8G ED VRII lens is Nikon's second generation 70-200mm zoom and follows on from the 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR lens that picked up a DP Gold Award three years ago.

REVIEW: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II

Nikon have been regularly updating their lens range and the latest zoom to get the makeover treatment is the Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 GII ED. The mark I version hit the shops back in 2003 so the update was long overdue.

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II is the go-to lens for many an event photographer, and it's a good one.

Sharp throughout zoom range. Doesn't extend when zooming. Focus limiter switch. In-lens vibration reduction. Includes tripod collar.

Some pincushion distortion. Close focus limited to 4.6 feet.

There's no question the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II is a fine lens. It's capable of capturing crisp, detailed images with a shallow depth of field, and its light-gathering capability makes it a favorite for event coverage and reportage...

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm F2.8G VR II Lens Review

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm 1:2.8G ED VR II was announced in July 2009, as the second iteration of the company's professional stabilized fast telezoom. It's the successor to the AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm 1:2.8G ED VR which first appeared in 2003, and...

Excellent image quality on both DX and FX formats, especially at 200mm ; Superb build quality with dust and moisture sealing ; Excellent optical image stabilization ; Excellent autofocus with manual override

Pronounced focus 'breathing', i.e. widening of the angle of view on focusing closer ; Reduced maximum magnification compared to previous version ; Somewhat susceptible to flare with direct light sources in or close to the frame ; Poorly-designed lens...

Nikon's long-awaited successor to its 70-200mm F2.8 VR was always going to be held up to very close scrutiny when it finally saw the light of day. Because while the original was a superb lens on DX cameras, it suffered from some well-publicised optical...
