Good zoom range in a compact lens. This 16-80 complements the Nikon 80-400 lens perfectly. Used on the D7200 this gives a very useful effective focal range of 24-600. Good image quality. Excellent image stabilisation. Good balance on the D7200.

Image quality is not significantly improved on the old 16-85. That's not actually bad because the previous lens was also good; it was not expected. The geometrical distortion is noticeable on buildings. That only shows up in raw images since JPEGS are...

Bright 2/2.8 to f/4.0 max aperture. Good zoom range, VR, light weight.

Poor image quality at wide end of the zoom range (e.g. chromatic aberration, lack of sharpness). Cheap looking build. Poor value for money. The AF-S 16-85mm f/3.5-f/5.6G has better image quality at half the price!
