A wide aperture short-telephoto lens with a silent focusing motor and Nikon's latest Nano Crystal lens coatings.

Good resolution performance; Beautiful out of focus blur; Excellent build quality; Negligible levels of CA; Good resistance to flare and ghosting

Maybe a touch pricey, but you get what you pay for

high build quality ; splendid image quality in the frame centre ; very good image quality on the edge of the frame, even on full frame ; slight lateral chromatic aberration ; negligible distortion ; well-corrected coma in the corners of APS-C/DX sensor...

significant vignetting on full frame ; a bit too high coma in full frame corners ; distinct longitudinal chromatic aberration

As is often the case, there is much more to how a lens performs than the resolution alone. In this case, Nikon's new 85mm f/1.4 certainly proved itself capable of producing images of very high resolution when stopped down a little.

A fast prime lens that's ideal for portraiture and suits photographers who want to shoot at f/1.4.

Overall this lens isa winner for portrait photographers, particularly on the D800 body. Our Imatesttesting showed it provided superior resolution to the 24-70mm zoom we used forour D800 tests and was well able to match expectations for the D800's...

Image quality, sharp, contrasty, and incredibly smooth bokeh.

While the lens feels robust, it doesn't quite feel as solid as the 35mm f/1.4G.

The light & colour achieved through this lens in amazing, light just floods into it. The high f-stop allows for great effect. This is definitely my favourite portrait lens. It feels strong, sturdy & well built.

Haven't discovered any yet though someone told me it doesn't work very well with on camera flash

Very fast autofocus Beautiful bokeh

Bad purple fringing in bright contrast areas when wide open Slightly softer than I was expecting from the reviews Build quality doesn't feel as robust as other Nikon pro lenses, but that's the price of lightweight, I guess
