Get it before it's gone

 

This lens is certainly an old design, but it still holds up well on digital, at least on DX or APS-C size sensors. I bought this lens to use with my Nikon D300S. I have a Sigma 10-20mm and the Nikon 18-55 VR that are close to this lens in focal range,...

Price, compared to similarly fast zooms or faster primes. Build quality, size and weight

Old design that 'may' be more subject to CA and flare

Much better than the similar 20mm or 28mm primes. Although it's about three times the price of the 50mm f/1.8, if you like that lens you should love this one.

so light you'd be daft not to take it

 

I take a lot of macro shots of plants, but this lens is really useful for placing the subject in its environment. It is so light that carrying it around as an extra is no effort. For my purposes a wider maximum aperture lens would be a waste of weight...

Lightweight and sharp

 

Having been bought up with prime lenses I have always found that good quality zooms are bulky and heavy. This 24mm is now in permanent residence on my D200 giving an equivilant focal length of 36mm which I find ideal for simple out and about...
