Great Nifty Fifty

Make sure your camera has an AF motor built in (higher end Nikons, such as D7000, D7100, any FX camera) otherwise the lens will be completely manual. Also remember if you have a DX sensor, your lens won't be f/1.8 @ 50mm, but something like f/2.7 @...

Very fast lens ; Bokeh is great ; Very inexpensive ; Works on FX and DX sensors ; Fast focus

No internal AF motor, so you need a camera that has a AF motor or be okay with manual focus ; Does not come with lens hood ; Focusing is loud

Fast and awesome!

On a non-fullframe camera. This is my second choice of people-portrait lenses. I choose my 35 1.8 over this for that purpose.

None. Unless you need a 1.2

Great Glass

Best use, Film and FX format CMOS sensors.

The Nifty Fifty! Great Glass, fast aperture at F1.8, fast AF through screw drive, great Bokeh!. Been using this on a D200. IF your using this on a DSLR DX format with screw drive (D1,D2,D50,D70,D80,D90,D100,D200,D300,D7000) Do note that it is actually...

No Cons, just do your research when buy it for your camera, make sure its compatible. IF you have a cheaper Nikon with no AF motor, get the 35mm DX.

Great for the price

I would recommend this to a friend if they were buying it at around $100 and not $180. If your camera body does support AF focusing. If not, still works with manual focus. Owned and used it for over 2 years, still works like it was brand new.

Very inexpensive. I remember buying mine for more like $110. It was well wroth it. I've been using it for my D40. It's a good small lightweight lens. Good for casual shots. I use it mostly for low light situations. I usually turn it up to 2.2 or higher...

A bit plasticy. Feels kind of cheap. Focus ring is a bit clunky. Doesn't auto focus with certain cameras. Look to see if you camera body supports AF. Pictures are a bit fuzzy at 1.8. The depth of field is so small at that f-stop that you can rarely...

Should be 1st lens you buy

If you're coming from a film camera, this lens is the equivalent of a 75mm, so you won't be getting a wide shot with it. This is easily the best value in lenses, but shop around since it should only cost a little over 1 c-bill.

Very fast lens that gets beautiful out of focus areas behind and in front of your subject (bokeh). If you're looking for a great portrait lens that isolates your subject but you can't spend a ton, this is it. Sharp photos if you're a few stops away...

Being a prime lens, I don't use this as much as my zoom lenses since this doesn't have much reach, but if I'm relatively close to my subject this is great. Doesn't autofocus on D40/D3000/D5000 since there's no built-in AF motor. If you have one of...

A prime lenses for any Nikonian

Simply a inexpensive lens that wont disappoint. Don't be shy with the plastic construction, it is sturdy, strong and well built. I will recommend a filter like a UV, for protection.

This fast lens (f/1.8) produces sharp pictures, contrast and great Bokehs. Absolutely responsive and it is perfect for portrait exposures and other general purposes. Is one of my favorite lenses, in fact I always keep it on my D300. Very fun to use.

This is a a prime lens so you need to move around for composition. If you are looking for a lens that does all the things for you, this wont make it. The autofocus does not work with D40, D40x, D60 and D5000.

Unbelievably Sharp!!!

It's amazing that one of Nikon's sharpest lenses ever is also one of its cheapest! You can pay three times as much for the 1.4D version, but you'd be very hard pressed to tell the difference between the final images. The only drawback to this lens is...

Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction, Consistent Output, Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Easily Interchangeable, Rugged, Sharp, Lightweight

Prone to lens flare
