This is an excellent lens, especially if you are used to old-school manual focus SLRs. I bought it thinking that I would have autofocus but when it wouldn't, I actually looked at the manual and it states auto focus is not available on a long list of...

I plan to use this lens for outdoor family occasions.

Fabulous Lense. I used it recently taking scenery pictures outdoors in Alaska. I got good clear quality pictures of eagles, the mountains, etc. I use the Nikon D50 and this lense is a great addition to the camera.

Typical Nikon lens - very good all around. I like the fact that it is very light weight, especially for the zoom range.
