Nikon AF-S DX 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 G EDII

Nikon's new standard ‘kit' lens is being packaged with the new D40 dSLR but is also available on it's own. Re-designed from the original that was released with the D50, we take a look at how it performs.

Smallest and lightest in class; Good performance especially at wider lengths; Good value for money

Slight drop in contrast at longer end

Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED DX II AF-S Review Round-Up

The Nikkor AF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED DX II is a marginal update to the original mk I variant. The optical design has not been changed so the general observations regarding image quality remain the same. The tested mk II sample has a sightly better...

Great lens

I purchased a refurbished lens and am very well pleased with it. It appeared to be brand new when I unboxed the lens. The auto focus is so quiet I had to double check to make sure it was working! The lens is very sharp and I have not noticed any...

After 3 years, Excellent Results

Three years after I received this lens in a D3100 kit it continues to perform very well. It is a general workhorse I use for hundreds of web portraits, small product shoots, 16x20 inch wall portraits and artistic images.

Not bad for the price

This is the kit lens that came with my D60. I was more than happy with it in the first couple of years until I bought the AF-S DX Nikkor 35 mm f/1.8 lens. Then I knew what I was missing in terms of sharpness and the ability to take pictures in low...

A real value

I am handicapped and the weight of my kit is extremely important. Anything that doesn't prove useful is gone in short order. This lens is an impressive blend of price, size, weight and performance. I don't use it a lot but its good enough to have found...

Best for its price

I love this lens! It came with my D3100 Camera, and it is great for general shooting. I've heard complaints about the Macro and low-light conditions, but it isn't for those purposes first of all, but I think they are pretty stinking good for the price....

There's a reason these are in starter kits.

Found one of these on the floor and behind a desk of the newsroom of a near-bankrupt publication I got a job with. It works relatively well, even though it's horribly dirty and I've even dropped it five feet onto a concrete floor while changing lenses....

Extremely good lens

I have taken many pictures and know the value of the lens in picture quality. In my opinion this has provided the quality picture I'm looking for.
