Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 12-50 mm f/3.5-6.3 ED EZ

The Micro 4/3 system has been developing by leaps and bounds and the number of lenses, currently available, approaches 40 different models. There are a lot of ‘kit' lenses of 14-42 mm class and also 14-140/150 mm megazoom devices. However none of the...

quite solid and sealed casing ; useful focal length range ; good image quality in the frame centre ; sensibly corrected chromatic aberration ; slight coma ; low astigmatism ; negligible vignetting at longer focal lengths ; fast and efficient autofocus

average image quality on the edge of the frame ; very high distortion on the wide angle ; significant vignetting at the shortest focal length ; weak work against bright light

How one judges this lens will depend on what one expects and how much one pays. If you can get this lens for $300 or less, AND if you're not expecting PRO or near-professional results, this can be a very nice "do-almost-anything" lens. Nice kit lens if...

More than sharp enough for amateur work. Nice range of focal lengths. Near macro function is nice as is the weather-sealed lens. Rather light weight

Slow lens and longer than most. Plastic body as expected on consumer level lens

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 12-50 mm f/3.5-6.3 ED EZ

It is a versatile kit lens, but maybe trying to do too much, bringing the sharpness down.Olympus promised me it would be better than the 14-42's, but it's less sharp than the 14-42 (one)

Does everything. Fast focus. Sharper than my 14.42 IIRMacro

Less sharp than my 14-42 (one) lensLong minimum focusing distance. When manually zooming, you can feel you drive the motor - not a delicious feeling

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 12-50 mm f/3.5-6.3 ED EZ

Kit lens when I bought my OM-D. The slow aperture is not a problem for me (shooting very often landscape and city), and I use other lens for low light (pana 1.7/20mm) or for mountaineering (pana 2.5/14mm).To recommend as a everyday lens

Useful range for city visiting and trekking. Excellent macro performance. Weather-sealed. Decent optical quality. Light weight

Slow maximum aperture. Size is a bit long although the length is fixed

a great kit lens for the om-d. can easily be an everyday lens, when it's raining and you still want to use your camera without a plastic bag around it.

Nice build quality, even if it's plastic.very good for video in bright sunlightl-fn for videostrong "Pumpy" zoom controlweatherproofeasily one of the best kit lens for MFTnot too big on a om-d

aperture is not fixed and very slow. Not really suitable for Variable nd filters because of the round front element

A very useful lens which I bought with my OM-D because it is weather-sealed. It is a much better lens than I expected and even the slow aperture isn't much of a problem due to the low light performance and IS on the OM-D. I have other lenses if I...

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 12-50 mm f/3.5-6.3 ED EZ

I do not use this lens much, because the 12mm f/2.0 and 45mm f/1.8 are so much better, in every respect (except macro & weatherproofing)If this lens was a constant f/4 (which is not impossible nowadays) and it was a bit better optically, I´d probably...

Weatherproof, can do 1:2 macro

Too small maximum aperture. Too long to carry under coat
