Leica Summicron-M 28 mm f/2.0 Asph

Our first M mount lens test concerned a Summicron- M 50 mm f/2.0 model so a full frame standard and classic device. By and large every full frame camera owner which treats his or her hobby seriously should have that type of lens in their arsenal....

excellent build and barrel quality ; very good image quality in the frame centre ; good image quality at the frame edge ; low chromatic aberration ; distortion corrected in a splendid way

Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH.

The Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH. is a sharp, fast, wide-angle optic for Leica rangefinder cameras; it's expensive, but an excellent performer.

Sharp from edge to edge at f/2. Nominal distortion. Wide aperture. Fairly compact. Includes lens hood.

Expensive. Close focus limited to 0.7-meter. Lens hood is huge. Manual focus only.

Rangefinder shooters who love to shoot in dim light and adore wider angles are going to be quite happy with the performance that the Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH. delivers. It's expensive, but it's sharper and faster than Leica's own Elmarit-M 28mm...

Leica 28mm f/2 Summicron Lens

There's absolutely nothing out of the ordinary about the posted picture, yet some of the comments show just how emotional and fanatical that some people can get over a camera brand, to the point where any shred of objectivity or common sense has long take

To summarize the review of the Leica 28mm M-Summicron Asph, you can think of it as all you'd expect it to be: A Compact, easy to handle, fast, medium wide angle lens, of first rate optical design, that yields outstandingly superior image performance with

Leica 28mm Summicron-M f/2.0 ASPH

Having had and sold the M8 along with 35 summicron, 50 lux, and 90 elmarit, I have found the weight:quality tradeoff with a DSLR dissappointing and have returned to the upgraded M8.2 with the 28 elmarit asph. It reminds me so much of the compactness...

Leica 28mm Summicron-M f/2.0 ASPH

I bought the f2 28mm Summicron Aspeherical to replace a 28mm 4th version Elmarit. The Elmarit was already excellent for my work, but, given the reviews of the 28mm f2 Summicron, I assumed I would see at least a degree of improvement in results. The...

Sharp ; Eveness of apparent sharpness ; Flatness of field / Minimal distortion ; Relative compactness

Expensive ; Notably shallower depth of field compared to spherical wide-angle lens designs ; may prove limiting to close, handheld work ; My sample does not render fine detail as realistically as my 4th version 28mm Elmarit, nor as well as the 35mm f2...

Leica 28-35-50mm Tri-Elmar-M f/4 ASP

Terrific convenience of having three focal lengths available in one lens. Not perfect replacement for three separate primes - slow maximum aperture (though you know this before you buy the lens) and slightly ungainly handling/balance compared to...

Convenience of having three focal lengths in one package. Much quicker than changing lenses.

Occasional veiling flare at 50mm setting. Large and unbalanced lens when compared to most of the 28, 35 and 50 primes.

Leica 28mm Summicron-M f/2.0 ASPH

The 28mm/2 ASPH is far and away the best lens in the 24-28mm range that I have used. It is extremely sharp and relatively smooth in out of focus areas, producing excellent results in photojournalistic crowd shots of people at f/5.6 and f/8. I am blown...

Sharpness, low light and isolating capabilities, convenient focusing tab. Excellent construction.

Sometimes large flare patches occur if a bright object is just outside the frame. Hood is bulky and cuts into viewfinder frame.

Leica 28mm Summicron-M f/2.0 ASPH

The lens is excellent, I use it wide open, or one stop down all the time. It has NO flare, even in dimly lit interiors with bright sunlit windows in the bg. Otherwise excellent lenses (Canon, Nikon) would fail in these circumstances. At 5.6 there is...

Speed, exceptional contrast, no distortion, and most of all, remarkable resistance to flare.

Like all rangefinder lenses, close focusing is limited, but better than competing brands, such as Voightlander. Lens hood must occasionally be removed to clear lower right area in finder.

This lens is extremely sharp with excellent contrast, and is a pleasure to use.

Resolving power, contrast and ease of use.
