REVIEW: Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM Interchangeable Lens Review

This compact medium telephoto lens sports a fast f/2 aperture, which will make this lens ideal for low light photography or creative use of shallow depth of field. It sports a silent ultrasonic focusing motor, internal focusing and costs around £380.

Good build quality; Very good sharpness; Low CA levels; Fast AF

Quite prone to flare; No lens hood supplied

Those looking for a medium telephoto for portraiture will find this lens a pretty good buy due to the excellent sharpness it is capable of producing and the reasonable price tag.

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Lens Review

The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Lens is an extremely fun lens to use. It combines excellent image quality with a useful focal length, a relatively small/light body, fast/quiet AF with 1:1 (1x) macro capabilities - and HIS (Hybrid Image...

Canon EF 100mm f/2.0 USM

I bought my Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM lens in 1996 because I needed a fast lens for concert work; I couldn't afford any of the "L" series zooms. Years later, as I look over the images it's produced, I can say that it's one of the finest lenses I've ever...

Wide open at 2.0 the lens performs magnificently, tack sharp in the eyes (with a soft tip of the nose, of course) up to 16x20. Edge to edge quality is better at 2.8, and at 4.0 the lens produces sharper Images than my 70-200/2.8L on the same settings....

Need to find your own hood for it

nice affordable lens

This lens is sharper than my Canon 24-105mm f/4L at 100mm.

Love the f/2 ratio for low-light situations. Lens is sharp, provides decent contrast, and an excellent bokeh effect. Nice portrait lens for full-frame cameras

Wish it had ED coatings to fix the chromatic aberration. But it did, it would no longer be affordable

Nice portrait lens on full frame body

I use this for outdoor portraits since it allows me to create nice background blur with my full frame camera. If using a crop body, I'd suggest the 85 or even a 50mm lens.

Nice bokeh (background blur), quiet and fast focus. No problems after one year

You have to use a fast shutter speed or a tripod. A 100 mm lens needs a steady hold

Best on full-frame body

It's a marvelous lens, but I rarely used mine after I moved from film to a 1.6X crop body. A 160mm crop equivalent would make this a middle telephoto, but in actual use with subjects at telephoto distances, the 200/2.8L is noticeably sharper at every...

Beautiful bokeh. Short DOF. Extremely fast to focus and accurate in low-light. Fast, discrete, relatively light, and built well

Focal length is awkward and inflexible on a crop body, and unsuitable for indoor use. Sharper at tradition portrait distances than telephoto distances. Weak at f/2 if subject is far away
