Fast Primes Are Your Friend

I bought this lens because I wanted a fast prime. That's precisely what I got. As the other reviews have said, this lens works out to be very close to an actual nifty fifty focal length on a crop sensor like the T3i. In hindsight, I probably should...

Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, fast aperture

You Can't Go Wrong.

This is truly a great piece of engineering. I bought this lens with a wide-angle in mind, since I have a cropped sensor camera (T3i). The quality is great and the camera is perfect for street photography. I would personally refrain from using it for...

Fast auto-focus, Super-sharp images, great price/quality ratio

Skip it

I've had this lens for several years. The images are soft at all apertures. There's a color cast. There's massive vignetting, though PIC removes it pretty well.

Maybe Not for Professionals

I purchased this lens for shooting small black box theatre productions without a flash, and these venues are typically not well lighted. This worked wonderfully with my Rebel. When I upgraded to a 5D and a 5D MkII I found this lens to be lacking. It...

24LII, 35L, 24-70L

Performance: 24mm f1.4 L II is very similar look, size, and weight to 35L though it has a weather sealed metal body so it does not have plastic feel of 35L. Focus speed, accuracy, sharpness are also similar to 35L. It\u2019s faster and a bit sharper...

All around excellence

I rented one of these to travel to South America. I spent 5 days in Colombia and 5 days hiking through the Andes in Peru. This is a tough lens. Well built, professional grade.

Not the best

Images have a purple cast and are a little soft at all apertures. Save your money until you can buy the 17-40 instead, you'll get sharper images.

Fantastic lens!

Got this lens today, tested it right away, took about a hundred or so shots.. very impressed, faster focus than the 50 1.8 MK2. Great contrasty images! Bokeh pleasant and not harsh at all. Build quality is great given the price, but could have come...

Great Value

I upgraded to this lens recently after the kit lens my dad and I have been sharing for almost 10 years now totally broke. It was definitely time for an update because I needed a good lens to go with my new Canon 60D. I'm really pleased with this lens...

Nice lens on a EOS crop sensor

On a EOS crop sensor this lens works out to be a 44mm lens, which is probably why I like it so much. I've used it on a full frame camera too and it distorts on the edges, this is pretty cool too and makes the lens pretty versatile. The glass is nice...
