Toshiba Satellite L505-ES5018
Sturdy design; competitive dual-core performance for the price; decent battery life; hard drive devoid of bloatware.
Bulkier and heavier than other 15.6-inch laptops; shortened spacebar and nonrecessed touch pad present some input challenges; so-so audio output; low-resolution Webcam.
The Toshiba Satellite L505-ES5018 is about the cheapest dual-core laptop that you'll find, and it provides a predictably basic feature set, but boasts competitive performance, respectable battery life, and zero bloatware.

Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5965
Features a dual-core processor for a very aggressive, entry-level price.
Unattractive, bulky design; missing useful features such as Bluetooth or a Webcam.
For a price just north of Netbook territory, Toshiba's chunky 15.6-inch Satellite L505D-S5965 has a solid, but uninspiring, selection of specs that at least won't hinder your basic computing needs.

The L505D lacks an HDMI port, but it does have 3 USB ports, an eSATA port, and a multiple memory card reader. It also has 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and a one-year warranty on both the parts and the battery. These are all standard features found on Multimedia...
Low price. Has a 16-inch high-definition widescreen
Poor multimedia performance, Don't even try to play high-end games
You definitely get what you pay for with the underperforming Toshiba Satellite L505D-S6947.

As we've seen more and more lately, buying a 'budget' laptop doesn't mean you have to sacrifice tons of performance or features. Don't expect what you would get for $1K, but for $600 you should get smooth processing, decent hard drive sizes, and...

Not many ports. No Blu-ray. Poor performance
At $580, the Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5996 laptop may seem like a steal, but its weak performance and feature set still disappoint.

The 15.6-inch display features a native resolution of 1,366 by 768, which is standard for the size. The screen is bright with good viewing angles. The widescreen display (16:9 aspect ratio) is convenient when working with documents side by side in...
Roomy, bright 15.6-inch display. 802.11n Wi-Fi
Big, bulky design. Poor battery life. Below average keyboard. Dismal audio output
You can find faster, better designed, and longer running low-cost laptops than the Toshiba Satellite L505D-ES5025.

With a large 15.6 inch widescreen monitor, large hard drive and plenty of memory, the Toshiba Satellite L505 has a lot of performance in a not-so-portable package. Ideal as a desktop replacement laptop, it offers a full range of features expected from...
Overall, I would recommend this for home use. It can get lugged around, but does not offer the portability of a netbook. My wife's version, with different speakers is just great. Windows 7 is a plus too.
