Though it's pricy, the Sony VAIO VGN-TX17 delivers a great combination of business and entertainment features, long battery life, and unparalleled connectivity in an incredibly ultraportable package.

Extremely portable design ; Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi ; Integrated double-layer DVD burner and instant-on player ; Very long battery life ; Excellent multimedia controls for a business machine

Very expensive ; Cramped keyboard

Sony VAIO notebooks have a one-year local warranty. At Sony's support Web site, VAIO owners can download the latest drivers. For simple problems, the company offers an online knowledge database for troubleshooting. Should the unit require further...

First Take: Sony Vaio VGN-TX17

 

Ultraportables don't get much lighter than Sony's 1.2kg TX17. Although diminutive in size, the 11-inch Vaio has a built-in DVD burner, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
