Hands On: Sony joins the Windows 8 laptop/tablet hybrid brigade, with a slider.
Stunning high res screen ; Very good build quality ; Very good connectivity
No proper trackpad ; Slide form factor doesn't protect screen
All of which leaves us with a peculiar beast. Essentially this is a premium Sony ultraportable laptop, with all the high-end features we'd expect of the company's enviable history in that segment, but on the other hand the overall form factor doesn't...

Sliding tablet-laptop hybrid with Windows 8
Great screen ; Staggering power ; Top connectivity ; QWERTY keyboard ; High-end build
Laptop-esque weight ; No trackpad ; Small keyboard ; Bulky ; Keyboard can't detach
The release of Windows 8 has heralded a host of new stylish tablets that make a pleasant change from the bland anonymous slates which have come to represent the Android market.

Can Windows 8 work on the Sony VAIO Duo 11 tablet hybrid?
Powerful processor ; Excellent touchscreen ; Amazing connectivity
Pricey ; Heavy

The Sony VAIO Duo 11 is among the first of a swathe of new Windows 8 touchscreen "laptops". Well, it's sort of a laptop, but sort of a tablet too as the Duo 11 sits flat like a tablet out of the box, but can morph into a more upright position to reveal...
Screen looks great, decent build quality, backlit keys, reasonable power
Touchscreen dirties up quickly, compressed keyboard is awkward, no dock for stylus, occasional orientation issues, when the fan kicks in it's horrendously noisy
Although inherently a laptop, the VAIO Duo 11 can't help but feel a bit like an oversized, and ultimately expensive - yet powerful - tablet. Which is rather confusing.

The Sony VAIO Duo 11 offers more than the traditional laptop experience. This touchscreen device comes pre-loaded with Windows 8 and even includes a digital

Sony's Duo 11 is one of that strange new breed of hybrid Windows 8 devices that can be used as either a tablet or a laptop computer. It's certainly an attractive looking device, with an excellent high-definition, touchscreen. However, the method that...
It’s certainly nice having the option of using the Duo 11 as a tablet from time to time. However, at this price the Duo 11 also needs to earn its keep as a workhorse laptop, and that baby-sized keyboard could deter many people who need a laptop that...

An undeservedly maligned tablet/ultrabook hybrid

The jury's still out on hybrid tablet-laptops as thetouch-friendly abilities of Windows 8 starts to creepinto PCs far and wide. Shouldn't you really decide one way or theother before you buy? And does something like the MicrosoftSurface, a tablet with...
Dual tablet/laptop, terrific HD touch screen, powerful processor, full Windows 8
Not cheap, sliding mechanism doesn't seem sturdy, no storage forstylus
The Duo 11 has a stonking screen and delivers animpressive performance. It shows off Windows 8 to best effect butwhile the sliding screen mechanism is distinctive, it won't be foreveryone. This being Sony, it's no bargain, but if you want ahybrid...

The Vaio Duo 11 is Sony's first attempt at luring those in the market for both a laptop and a tablet to save money and buy a device that is both.
Vibrant display, portable, well built
No track pad, a little chunky, not great as a tablet, sliding mechanism is difficult to operate
As a notebook, the Vaio Duo 11 performs well, and the HD screen is high quality. But for £849 for the least powerful configuration, we think it is a little too expensive for what you get.
