All-day battery life ; Bright, crisp touch display with 3:2 aspect ratio ; Both USB-C and USB-A support ; Chic and lightweight design

U-series CPU limits performance ceiling ; Webcam is still only 720p resolution ; Still just one USB-C port ; Pricey configuration options

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 offers a slightly improved CPU from the Laptop 4, but the focus remains on its high-end portable design and long-lasting battery.

Why the heck would someone get this over the Surface Laptop 4?

Divine-sounding speakers ; Tactile, clicky keyboard ; Slim, solid chassis ; Slightly larger touchpad

Thick bezels ; 720p webcam ; Middling performance ; Ho-hum battery life

The 15-inch Surface Laptop 5 has divine-sounding speakers and a spectacular keyboard, but that’s about it. In critical categories, the AMD Surface Laptop 4 bests its successor.
