Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Gen 8) Review: Terrific Typing, Super Slim

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon combines a comfy keyboard with a super-svelte chassis.

Slim, lightweight design ; Excellent keyboard ; Vibrant 4K display ; All-day battery life (on 1080p model) ; Great port selection

Dull, blurry webcam ; Annoying power button placement ; VoIP controls only work with two apps

The ultimate in lightweight productivity, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Gen 8) combines a best-in-class keyboard with a stunning screen and strong endurance.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 (2020) Review

Flawless lightweight construction ; Superb keyboard and display ; Good array of ports and configuration options

Expensive outside of fleet buys ; No SD or microSD card slot

It hasn't gotten Intel's 11th Generation "Tiger Lake" processors yet, but there's no more desirable ultraportable than Lenovo's 2.4-pound ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2020 Business-Laptop Review: 4K display costs battery runtime

Notebookcheck reviews the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2020 G8 with the high-resolution 4K HDR panel, which reduces the battery runtime significantly.

very compact and light;good system performance;quiet fans;very good speakers;comprehensive warranty options;integrated LTE;Wi-Fi 6;still a very good keyboard...

... but worse compared to other ThinkPads;4K display has a glossy surface and suffers from PWM;no SD reader;very limited maintenance;LAN only via (included) adapter

10th-gen Intel processors ; Durable design ; Fantastic keyboard ; Great I/O selection

Battery life is underwhelming ; Audio sucks (unless you use headphones) ; All-black exterior can come off as extremely bland ; More demanding tasks will struggle
