Lenovo ThinkPad P50 review

If performance is a priority, Lenovo's no-nonsense ThinkPad P50 should be your next laptop.

Today’s laptops are wonderful, but not everyone is a fan. Some dislike the trend towards mediocre keyboards, glossy displays, and limited connectivity. These fans of old-school laptops bemoan decreasing functionality alongside increasing prices. If...

Lenovo ThinkPad P50 Workstation (Xeon, 4K) Review

Better with 4K? Once again, we review the mobile workstation from Lenovo. This time, however, the ThinkPad P50 is equipped with a Xeon processor and a 4K screen, but the latter does not make sense for every user.

very good build quality and stability ; excellent input devices ; very high performance, also under load ; modern port selection ; many security features ; very fast PCIe-SSD ; quiet cooling solution ; can be configured ; 36-month warranty ; matte 4K...

... that is unnecessarily complicated ; display results do not meet the advertised specs ; PWM ; shorter runtimes and higher temperatures compared to the FHD configuration ; no RAID support

The review update of the ThinkPad P50 is very interesting, but it does not really make it easier to choose the right model for potential buyers. We want to start with two positive aspects: The Turbo Boost problem, which affected the benchmark results...

Lenovo ThinkPad P50 Review: A Preeminent Workstation Laptop Worth Every Penny

If you have a few minutes, my Lenovo ThinkPad P50 review will explain why this member of Lenovo's newest workhorse line of laptops has wooed me so thoroughly.

Great look and solid finish. A powerhouse. Future proof thanks to simple and abundant expansion options. Best keyboard on a laptop I have ever used. Bright and color-rich screen. Trackpad that has been tuned to perfection.

Could be lighter. Price may turn some off, but it is not unreasonable. Better battery life is something we will always ask for.

I doubt I could have been any clearer regarding my feelings concerning the Lenovo Thinkpad P50. Forget the gimmicks. Forget the empty rhetoric by companies telling you that under powered, thin laptops, barren of functionality are somehow the future of...

Lenovo ThinkPad P50 & ThinkPad P70

The Lenovo ThinkPad P70 and P50 are lumberjacks among laptops. This mobile workstation series has higher end NVIDIA Quadro graphics and 45 watt, quad core Intel Skylake Core i7 and Xeon CPUs. In fact, our P50 and P70 have the new Intel mobile Xeon, a...

Very strong performance, durable, great keyboards, good battery life. Some configs support a Wacom AES pen

If you're looking for slim and light mobile workstations, these aren't them

If you're in the market for a traditional 15 or 17 inch mobile workstation with a robust build, excellent keyboard and impressive high color gamut 4K displays, the Lenovo ThinkPad P50 and P70 merit strong consideration. Even more interesting is the...

Consumer review (newegg.com)

It's a 4 star (egg) product that I am turning into a 5 star product

It's big and heavy, but this is also not a tablet. I ordered the Docking Station for this laptop from Lenovo and it is very nice, although a bit pricey at $300. Took about 7 days to arrive.

There are 4 RAM slots. Two of them are super easy to access by removing the back cover. The other two are under the keyboard but are not too difficult to get to. It came with 1 SODIMM that is 16GB. I am replacing it with 4 new ones for a total of 64GB...

While the RAM upgrade is easy and nice, the storage is a different story. For the M.2 drives you need a special caddy from Lenovo. It only comes with the one for the drive installed. I was able to order one from Lenovo, took about 10 days to arrive....

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Some surprises

Installing Win10 on the 950 Pro as booting drive took some effort. In the end I think the default BIOS settings are OK but the usb media has to be UEFI. I used Rufus wit UEFI and MBR option.

The specs. My current machine is a 2010 era W510.

Stock SSD is actually M.2 (wasn't clear from docs). M.2 on this laptop requires a special tray, but only one is provided. So the Samsung 950 Pro I bought had to replace the stock one. Also there is no supplied cable for a 2.5 inch drive. So if you...
