HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 review

The force is strong with this enterprise ultrabook

Attractive, thin and light design ; Docking capability ; Impressive ForcePad tech ; Promises all-day battery life

ForcePad seems superfluous ; Full HD display isn't standard

HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 ultraportable laptop review

It's a 14-inch lightweight model based on the MacBook Air template, just 17 mm thick and weighing little over 1.5 kg. Like very few others, it is made almost entirely from real metal, using an Apple-like unibody aluminium construction. This seems to be...

Most ultraportables we test are dumbed-down MacBook Air clones with cheap construction and low-grade components. That's why it makes a particularly refreshing change to find a Windows laptop that not just matches but surpasses Apple's popular...

HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1

A rather nice business notebook with a range of security features from both Intel and HP. The items not immediately available on this unit are available via a dock, so you not end up taking extra weight out and about with you.

It is 33.5x23x1.4cm and weights 1554grams. This unit has USB3 ports although you would only know it by speed of transfer as they do not have the blue middle bar that normally denotes these ports. The screen is 14inches and has a 720P webcam set at the...

The HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 is an ultraportable Windows laptop that not just matches but surpasses Apple's MacBook Air in the key area of screen quality. Here is our HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 review.

HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 (E7N23PA)

A 14in Ultrabook that's designed to appeal to big business

Solid construction ; Comfortable keyboard

Specs a little low for the price ; ForcePad feels different to a touchpad ; Some 2.4GHz Wi-Fi woes

HP's business-oriented 14in Ultrabook offers a thin and light solution for enterprises, while maintaining security and management features. It's well built, performs swiftly for the most part, but its cost is high.

HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G1

The HP Elitebook Folio 1040 business ultrabook features forward-looking tech, like a pressure-sensitive trackpad, and eliminates bulky features, like dual pointing sticks and built-in Ethernet. Demanding, highly mobile sales/executive power users...

Slim form factor. Anti-glare screen. MIL-SPEC 810G rating. Good solid-state drive (SSD) capacity. Bundles Windows 7 Pro, with Windows 8 Pro license.

No touch screen. VGA and Ethernet on dongle. ForcePad is novel, but requires learning new touch gestures. SIM card slot is unprotected.

The HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G1 is a capable powerhouse system for business executives, executive assistants, mid-level engineers, and anyone else who merits a power-user's system. It's fast, has numerous security features, WWAN, and the innovative...

HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 Review

Does business-friendly have to mean boring? HP is hoping the answer to that is no, with the EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 promising the dependability of an enterprise notebook with some of the style borrowed from the company's consumer ultrabook range. It's...

Building a work-centric notebook used to be straightforward; now, though, users expect the style of their consumer brethren, as well as something that won’t weigh down the average briefcase or bag, yet without making concessions on performance and...

HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 review: An elegant yet robust ultrabook

HP's 14-inch EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 combines ultrabook elegance with MIL-STD 810G robustness. It has a great screen and performs well, but lacks integrated VGA and Ethernet ports. You'll pay a premium price too.

Thin and light ; MIL-STD rated ; Integrated mobile broadband ; Great screen ; Good performance

Expensive ; Lacks integrated VGA and Ethernet ports ; Vulnerable SIM card slot ; ForcePad takes some learning ; MicroSD rather than full-size SD card slot

HP's EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 looks every inch a business executive's ultrabook, while its MIL-STD 810G rating means it should stand up to the rigours of life on the road. The high-resolution 14-inch screen is a pleasure to use, and the integrated...

The HP EliteBook 1040 has great looks and features a dark grey aluminium finish with HP logo sculpted in center. A large clickless pressure sensitive trackpad sits below the keypad
