HP EliteBook Folio G1 review

Sleek, small and in need of an outlet

Comfortable, enterprise oriented keyboard ; Ultra-thin and light body ; Able multi-tasker

Adapter hungry ; Finicky touchpad ; Pedestrian battery life ; Base runs extremely hot

Beware of overpaying for the EliteBook Folio G1: its base configuration has all the pros but the $999 price tag exposes the cost of its cons.

HP EliteBook Folio G1 review: A slim business laptop you'll want to show off

This 12.5-inch 4K laptop feels like a Windows version of the 12-inch MacBook.

The Folio G1 is very thin and light, with an upscale look and feel and a great keyboard for an ultraportable laptop. There are plenty of configuration options, including a 4K touchscreen.

Battery life takes a hit in the 4K version, the hinge should be tighter, and both ports are USB-C.

HP's take on the 12-inch Core M laptop could use a few design tweaks, but it evokes the best parts of Apple's 12-inch MacBook, with better value and more options.

HP EliteBook Folio G1 review

  (Rating Hidden)

If you're after a cheap laptop, you may as well stop reading now - the HP EliteBook Folio G1 is for people who are happy to pay for the very highest specs. But an impressive-sounding processor and screen doesn't always add up to a laptop that's a...

HP EliteBook Folio G1 review

Shiny and wafer thin, yet also missing the point of an ultra portable laptop

Exceedingly comfortable keyboard; Slim, light, sturdy and stylish metal build; Good quality screen; Three year warranty

Janky touchpad and touchscreen; Awkwardly placed ports; Overheating

There’s a lot to like with HP’s super thin ultra portable laptop, but one too many flaws mean we can’t recommend it wholeheartedly

HP EliteBook Folio G1 review: A beauty that's fundamentally flawed

The most attractive Windows ultraportable in existence, but the Folio G1's 4K-screened brilliance is tempered by poor battery life

In the midst of the 1990s, back when some marketing genius first coined the term "ultraportable", the technology simply was not up to the job. Achieving an acceptable balance between performance, usability, build quality and battery life was...

HP EliteBook Folio G1

Although Windows 10 was available to some to download as early as August last year this is the first unit that I have reviewed that was designed to use Windows 10 and by that I mean it can use all the features that Microsoft had as selling points when...

Currently I can only find it from the HP site at $1399.

Review: HP EliteBook Folio G1 offers lightweight business computing

HP's latest Windows 10 laptop comes in touch and non-touch versions; it offers a bright display, great keyboard and a variety of options.

Good value ; small ; thin and light ; excellent UHD touch display ; backlit keyboard ; two USB-C ports ; good security features

Relatively short battery life ; no SD card slot

While the more powerful, long-lasting and cheaper HD model appeals to the left, more logical side of my brain, the right side dominates here and I lust after the incredibly bright, rich and useful UHD touch model.

HP EliteBook Folio review: chasing the MacBook

I found my ideal Windows laptop last year. Dell's XPS 13 convinced me to switch away from Apple's aging MacBook Air for its edge-to-edge display and smaller form factor, and I've been happily using...

Great design ; Lightweight and thin ; Two USB Type-C ports

Poor performance at times ; Short battery life ; 4K display is unnecessary ; Bundled software is irritating

HP EliteBook Folio G1 (1080p HD)

The HP EliteBook Folio G1 is a capable ultraportable with solid battery life and a minimal design that should attract consumers, small business users, and those in the executive suite.

Light and compact body. Includes two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 support.

Requires adapters for many common ports.

Compared with its 4K-equipped sibling, whose sharp looks and generally compelling feature set it shares, the 1080p HD version of the HP EliteBook Folio G1 trades screen resolution and storage space for more battery life and a smaller price tag. For...

HP EliteBook Folio G1 (4K UHD)

A minimally designed ultraportable that's attractive to consumers as well as business users, the 4K-equipped HP EliteBook Folio G1 one-ups the Apple MacBook by including two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3.

Light and compact body. Equipped with 4K display, two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 support.

Requires dongles for many common ports. Screen drains battery faster than on competing systems.

The HP EliteBook Folio G1 is certainly attractive if you can't bear to be seen in public with a utilitarian dark gray or black laptop. It has the matte aluminum body that your image craves, but also has the business features that your IT manager...
