Meet the toughest Chromebook
Rugged, military tested design ; Loud speakers ; 180-degree barrel hinge
Touchscreen not standard ; Small keyboard ; Large footprint for screen size
Dell packed some of the best features from its more expensive business notebooks into a compact design that's built to survive daily use in the education market.

The Google Chromebook is an interesting experience and proposition. For your money you get a browser-based operating system that is easy to use, but limited by the fact that you need to be online to really be able to use it to its full potential....
Good screen, solid built, light, affordable, footprint smaller than a sheet of A4 paper
USB charging takes forever, sluggish performance, glossy screen, have to be online to get most from it
The Chromebook remains a strange kettle of fish. Whether you'll warm to it mostly relies on whether or not you think Chrome OS is a good or bad idea. Clearly to make the most of the operating system you have to be online, although you can now use...

The HP Chromebook 11 - see full review - is a thing of beauty, if you like acres of glossy white plastic. Details such as the light-up strip of Google colours and the blue accents are nice touches, but it also comes in black if you prefer.

If Apple can sell the idea of a plastic iPhone as a good thing, then HP must be on-trend with its new 11in Chromebook.
The Chromebook 11 looks great, is small and light and has the best screen we’ve seen on a Chrome OS device. However, build quality isn’t quite up to scratch and – more importantly – neither is performance. With several other rival Chromebooks about to...

It's HP's turn to wear the Chromebook crown – but has it made Google's browser-based laptop better or worse?
80s-tastic design ; Much improved screen ; MicroUSB charging
Chrome OS is still limited ; No games ; Poor trackpad
Chrome OS still has limits, but the great screen and eye-catching design help make this the best Chromebook yet

The latest $279 Chromebook is the most attractive yet, but it's best reserved for heavy Web users who crave keyboards.
The ; has a sharp design, comfortable keyboard, bright IPS display, and loud speakers; it also works with Chromecast for living-room media sharing.
Nothing much new under the hood: only 16GB of storage, no SD card slot, and it drops the regular HDMI port that the otherwise similar $250 Samsung Chromebook had. No touch screen. Chromebook still not great as offline-ready device.
A fresh look and comfortable feel make HP’s 11-inch budget Chromebook an appealing bet, especially for households that need a cheap no-frills Web-surfing Google Netbook. If you’re not thinking about productivity, though, you’re better off with a tablet.

HP is targeting students with its Chromebook 11 - it has an affordable price and a tiny frame. If all you're after is a budget laptop for checking your emails and browsing your favourite websites, then it looks worth considering. We've tested the HP...

The HP Chromebook 11 isn't the fastest Chromebook around, but it is our favourite
At its launch, the Chromebook 11 was already a bargain at £229; now you can easily find it for £190, making it irresistible. To be sure, there are compromises, notably on speed and longevity – we'd love to see a model with a Bay Trail or Haswell...

Google's Chromebook concept is still to properly catch on.
