P7808U

Gateway's return to tech prominence is largely due to a series of incredibly cheap gaming laptops sold directly through Best Buy. In fact, one of the earliest models, the P-6831FX (and later the P-172X FX), offered so much bang for the buck that it was...

Good configuration for the price Excellent keyboard

Low-resolution screen Performance is a bit disappointing

The Gateway P-7808u is a very capable desktop replacement, incorporating some high-end hardware for a very reasonable price. But unless you plan to make heavy use of software that specifically engages the quad-core CPU (3D rendering, for example),...

Gateway P7808u Laptop Review

Solid keyboard and build quality ; Ample power for the price

Poor screen a cost-cutting casualty ; Performance is a bit disappointing

A great desktop replacement that is ironically undercut by an almost identical but significantly cheaper model from Gateway.

Gateway P-7808u FX Edition

It may not look like a gaming laptop, but the Gateway P-7808u packs hard-core gaming parts, at well below industry prices.

Tough-to-beat price. Intel quad-core processor. Top-tier graphics card. Excellent typing experience. Numeric keypad included. Big battery delivered very good score. Relatively light for a 17-inch.

Design could use a huge splash of imagination. Screen resolution isn't scaled high enough for a hard-core gaming laptop.

Gateway P-7805u FX Review

The Gateway P-7805u FX is a 17-inch gaming notebook for users who want the performance to play the latest games, but don't want to empty their wallets in the process. Priced at The Gateway P-7805u FX is a 17-inch gaming notebook for users who want the...

Nice price for the features ; Great performance ; Good looks and decent build quality

Limited port selection ; Few body changes from previous models

Noise from the cooling system was higher than average, since it has to move more air to cool its processor and powerful GPU. Under light loads depending on how long the notebook has been on the fan was at a faster speed than most notebooks, and under...

Gateway P-7808u FX

For several months we've been talking about what a great value Gateway's P-7811 FX gaming notebook was (reviewed October 2008). So we were anxious to see how the update to that model, the P-7808u FX, holds up.

Quad-core performance; budget price

Same 'ol look and feel; same 'ol game performance

Nevertheless, we can’t help but feel disappointed. While the P-7811 FX hit just the right mix of price and gaming performance for its time, the P-7808u FX is more expensive than its predecessor, yet offers gamers last year’s tech.

Review: Gateway P-7808u FX gaming notebook

The relatively new Gateway 7808u FX Edition is the first model in the company's P series of gaming notebooks to have a quad-core processor. This series gets a new model number each generation so the 7808u may seem like an all-new laptop, but it's...

Gateway P-7808u FX Edition Notebook

What's hot: High performance in multimedia and gaming. Good audio, HDMI port and external eSATA port.

Four-core processor on a notebook is impressive ; pair that with 1GB dedicated graphics RAM (Crysis uses the whole gig) and you've got a killer gaming notebook. Big plus for the HDMI port and the eSATA port. Good price for what you get

No SSD option. Doesn't run some 32-bit games well. Our unit buzzed (fan and optical drive)

The Gateway P-7808u FX is indeed an elite notebook in both size and power as one of the few notebooks that can compete with desktop machines in gaming. The Gateway shows great performance in both productivity tasks and most of all handling games that...

Good so far

Great buy especially for $1300.

Nicely spec'd laptop with a great screen. This laptop does include a built-in mic, don't know what them other guys are talking about

Battery power brick is making a hissing noise, but Gateway will replace it

No microphone

Why provide a Web cam and no mike? Vista experience rating of 5.1 is quite respectable for a notebook.

Fast, great screen, two drive bays, keypad

NO MICROPHONE! Would give it 5 stars otherwise
